For those of you doing engine swaps..
Check out these pics from motor mounts.
This are about 6 months and about 10k miles, mainly on washboard roads and hwys.

After 6 months of washboard roads...

These are the motor mounts I got from Downey (back when they were in business) they were about 3 years old when I pulled them out..
The engine was pretty much sitting on top of the rubber mounts as these were not a bolt through mount..but more like isolators....

Which makes yah want to build something stronger...

I'm glad you posted this. I think I'll check mine out soon. I replaced the trans mount with a brand new OEM unit when I changed to the H55F, but mine looked just like yours and only had 135k on it.

I have said it before and I will say it again.....these kind of mounts just do not hold up well.

A vulcanized leaf spring bushing or similar type mount will last way way longer. I know what I will be doing when I re-do my AA mounts.

There is a reason that Ford discontinued using the mounts that AA supplies when they quit building the flathead V8's.

I have said it before and I will say it again.....these kind of mounts just do not hold up well.

Like this, these are OE FJ60 rubber leaf spring eye bushings sourced for Cruiser Outfitters:

Making these work will need a little machining or some metric tubing. I used them for all 3 mounts, but I don't have a clear picture of the trans mount. And they need a sleeve thru the middle of them or you end up using a ridiculously large thru-bolt.

What about polyurethane bushings.... ??
I think I can get them cheap from McMaster Carr.

Go to Ruff Stuff. He sells the bushing and tube and the bushing is from a Chevy you can source anywhere

Yup....that is what I am talking about right there. That will not fail you anytime soon and will last a long time. When it does fail, cost to replace is what $10!?

I did the same kind of thing on my rock cralwer. Only we used Chevy bushes. Super bomber and IMHO the only way to go.

Poly is very stiff and has a tendancy to crack. They definately will be better then any hockey puck type mount but I think the vulcanized bushes are the best. Why mess with a good thing and not go with tried and true!?

You can use anything you want....but I know what I am going with when I re-do my engine mounts.

After looking at more than a few light aircraft engine mount designs I knew that this was the geometry that I wanted. I used the FJ60 bushings to make it easy to remember what the application was. I think that each bushing was about $2 when I bought them, so $4 for each of the three mounts plus one spare set of bushings just in case.
