Hello,

I have this idea that i could buy an engine inspection scope of some kind and fish the viewer down the glow plug hole and take a peek at the cyl walls, precups, valves, etc.

Has anyone done this? or had experience with a cheap product that would allow this?

I see some USB type devices on amazon and what not for about 15 bucks and up but my concern is looking 180 degrees up from the glow plug hole to see the precups.

Ive also seen some multi-axis swivel units that look all around but are upwards of 1200 bucks which would defeat the purpose, may as well pull the head.

most of the cameras on snakes that are available from stores like home depot, etc, that are normally used for plumbing and the likes have a head that is about 1/2-5/8" in diameter. You could feed it down the injector hole. The glow plug hole is very small (around 1/4").
Those ones go for around $150 or less and work well.

Both the injector and the glow plug lead you into the precup, not into the cylinder. The precup hole is quite small and also exits at a 45deg angle... I think its going to be pretty tough to find a borescope that can make the turn.

Agreed, and when you go to the non precup engines, like HDT, HDFT or HDFTE then there are no glow plug holes (FT(E)) and the injectors are much thinner at the tip.

Drat! Hmmmm. This is good to know. Good info tho keep the ideas rolling!!

I couldn't even poke bronze-welding wire into a cylinder from a glow plug hole.

I tried unsuccessfully once in an effort to confirm when a piston was reaching TDC (top dead centre).

So I think I can confirm that route would definitely be impossible for any camera.

I bought a 5mm flex bore scope from amazon last year and just scoped through the glow plug hole. I could only see 1/2 the pre cup and couldnt fully see the cup opening. Looking through the injector would let you see alot more. Being able to look into your cylinder would mean your engine has experienced severe damage.
