Let's just say the well-loved local tv station I worked for had some pretty massive layoffs last week, and I was included. :frown:

So if you or someone you know is looking for a web and/or print designer, think of me!

I'm in the middle of updating my horribly out-of-date freelance site:
High Sky Design - Arizona - Web Design, Marketing, Advertising for the Internet. Web sites that work.

And building my personal portfolio site:
Korina Adkins : Web and Print Designer

I have resumes galore as well. :grinpimp:

Thanks y'all!

Also, I have some time in my schedule for some beer, :hhmm: as long as you're buyin. :hillbilly:

Sorry to hear you lost your job, I'm also sorry I don't know of any places hiring someone with your skills & to top it all off you live to far away to have a beer with... Don't want to spend the summer in tent city...

3 jobs applied for so far, and unemployment benes app submitted.

Sorry to hear that. I'm sure you'll land on your feet.

But atleast you won't have to look at Ross Shimabuku's FJC anymore.

Thanks. Ya know, there are now 3 FJCs there? At least one of them has some off-road gear on it, thank gawd.

Thanks, man. No worries. I know the economy is tight now. The listings are pretty sparse.

I'll drink a beer with you virtually. :D

Korina,
Keep your head up, I was just in your shoes after 10+ years with Oakley....things works out for the better in the long run.

that sucks, specially now... is it normal for a tv station to lay off? i would have thought it a pretty solid place to be.

I thought it was pretty stable. But I bring the layoff curse. I think they last time they did a major layoff was in like 1996. The whole industry is suffering right now.

At "the big meeting" we were shown some stats, and I guess local broadcast stations are just bleeding viewers. They're all going to cable. A competitor just did a smaller layoff last week too, and closed their job openings.

The folks in the actual tv production part are fairly safe (though I think some camera people and on-air talent were let go), but the web and graphics ppl were considered expendable.

Bummin deal!:frown: Time for a little vacation, or is it more like a honey do deal?:D

Ulgh. Option B. Friday I cleaned house. Yesterday I had to work on the boat. Today I have to get the gear ready for camping.

We actually had two vacations already planned -- camping this weekend, and mexico in june -- and we're going to try and follow through on both. Especially the mexico trip, since we already purchased airfare and accomodations.

Yeah I remember when that happened. I know it will be for the best. But right now it kinda sucks. :frown:

Howdy! Big $$$ is going into the web-news industry. The Republic and Channel 12, both owned by Gannett, are putting lots of effort into this area. Check them out, if that's NOT where you got laid off at. John
