Kepp screwing this up so will keep it simple. 88 FJ 62 110,000 miles. Stone stock. Very little off road in it's life. Bought from the original owner (90 years old) last June. Did the knuckles, brakes, tires and all fluids.

Plan an OME 2", better tunes, and fix the leaking main seal in the next year or so.

Look forward to help from Mud. The knuckle FAQ was invaluable, and results evident before I got out of the driveway.

Great forum!

That is a nice ride !!!

 Wow that's clean. Bet your rear main seal is just the pan gasket.

Holy time machine, Batman! Looks like it hasn't seen much dirt or even sunlight...

It's sooo cleannn. Great find :)

New Mexico. Real dry here, and the guy din't like to drive in the snow.

Interior in great shape, now holes or stains, except for a few marks in the cargo area. Couple of scratches here and there in the paint, but zero rust. Spare has never been on the ground

Bough an 89 new and have been kicking myself since 93 when I sold it. Finally got to replace it

Pretty good leak coming out of the bottom of the bell housing. motor pan is pretty dry, but I guess it coulod be leaking instead of the main. Not looking forward to pulling the tranny and case to fix a five dollar part.

Have a good connection in Cruiser Dan at American. Worked there myself 20 years ago and they are only 3 miles from home.

Mine was leaking through the plate at the fly wheel, dripping out of the little rubber stopper (this is on a 60)fly wheel and clutch was wet with oil too. Thought it was the main seal, needed a clutch and when we got in there it was the back of the pan that was leaking..Old Toyota mechanic did the work, he said about 90% of the leaks are pan rather than main seal...If you don't have to go in there maybe try the pan first..course that is a pita too..but not as big a pita as dropping that auto etc..

For now you could try to snug the bolts a touch, doubt it would stop the leaking, but might slow it considerably.

Another 2 tone

Not nearly as shinny. But here is mine in Atlanta, Ga. Truck now has 178K on the clock had 100K when I bought it.

Nice ride folks! Is it my imagination or are the 62's making a comeback?

Thanks for the info on the OP gasket leaks! I thought it might have been my seal as well! I blew a main rear seal once. My lips hurt for a week afterward.

Guess you blew it the hard way. CDan told me the pan can be pretty tough to get off. Said if it is stuck pretty good to put a block of wood on the side of the pan with a jack between it and the frame to get it to budge.

Is this the standard procedure?

Yup, but mine came of like warm butter. It helps to be lucky:D
