Congrats Dave - wow the late Bull hunt at 7,000 feet~ bring your thermals! I got drawn for Bull in the same unit season before last and it was a rainy, mucky mess with that clay mud up there. The Elk just laughed at us as we slipped and slid everywhere both driving and walking!

With you living in the area and being outdoors alot, youll probably already know where that big Bull is hiding!

We did not get drawn for either this year :frown:

My grandfather and I got drawn this year! 3a and 3c east. :)

I'm in for a late hunt in unit 10. I may need my thermals, too. :)

My base camp was in the public land just north of Williams last season. I'll look hard at the northwest and central parts of the Boquillas Ranch for this go round. That's actually the only part I had scouted last year.

Rifle Bull - 22 North

Dec 3-9

I imagine it would be late enough they would come down from the unit 5 area which is located just to the north of 22. Doesnt unit 22 run right up to the rim?

Lucky dawg

260 out of Payson is the 22N/22S boundary on the east side of Payson, It angles NW out of Payson on the west side.

So yes, 5A on the east and 6a on the west. The parts of it I am familiar with are rough as hell. I bow hunted 22 South in Nov last year, and helped a kid haul a bull out of 22 N. If anything like this last winter, I am expecting to be in snow.

Did my first scouting trip last weekend. Unit 6b is new to me, but I'm going to start putting in for 6b/6a consistently in order to learn the ground. Anyone else out scouting, or are you already familiar with your prefered units? Putting in for the same units for Deer?

Thats a great area to be drawn for. Dad and I used to put in for 5B consistently and hunt in the Happy Jack area. 5B is just adjacent to 6B. We would see large herds crisscrossing the unit boundry road going back and forth between the 2 areas. I pulled an absolutely huge Bull Elk from that area about 20 years ago. Still good hunting. The meat filled up a full size stand up freezer. Get some good scouting in...

Scouting is key. I started hunting big game with friends four years ago, but have been making the classic mistake of moving between different units without getting to know any one unit really well. I’m planning on putting in for 6b/6a for the next couple of years and scouting every inch of the areas.
