They are most likely the adjustable shackles you can purchase at somewhere like pep boys or advance auto. Be careful though at full adjustment I have seen them get slightly sketchy. If you are to go that far with them I would consider reinforcing the center with maybe some 1 x 1 stock or something to stabilize them.

Yeah they are adjustable. My Bro-in-law used to raise it and lower it depending on if it was deer season or not. Probably do something different later, for now...

Been hard at it today. My truck is puking wires. Found the wire causing the trouble. Apparently the "Ignition Resistor Wire" got too hot and started to melt a few wires around it. It actually looked like this wire had been installed some time after it left the factory (unless it had to be replaced, which is possible). It wasn't the original and didn't match anything on the electrical diagram. With the help of a friend, we read up on resistors and found that you can either have a resistor wire or an ignition resistor (box or built in) to control voltage from the battery. The wire has to be replace every so often i believe.

I haven't ordered a FSM yet but was wondering what you all knew about this. What did the 78 FJ40's come with?

Should I replace this wire with another ignition resistor wire? Yes if it doesn't have a builtin resistor right?

I also realized that the fix that the mechanic tried was a bypass of sorts, but what he thought he was bypassing he didn't due to this intallation of the ignition resistor wire. Not sure how it temporarily fixed the problem, but it now I want to make sure that it is done right. This includes (thanks for the warning mtweller) making sure this wire is fused, properly installed, and is the correctly wire for task it is to do.

Installed the ballast resistor. Now its turning over and cranking, but then dying. Not getting enough current through the resistor. Gonna charge the battery and then we'll test voltage and current after that.

Almost there!

She lives!!!

Now I still have to charge the battery. I am hoping that it is just completely dead and not some other problem. Been jumping it off of the s10. More to come on that.

Drove her around the block, first time in over a month.

Yeah I didn't get to stick around that long. Hopefully next time.

I'm not gonna be able to make it to OBX. I already have plans and the cruiser definitely would not be up for it by then.

Next item on the list: Brakes.
