Posting here to see if I can get some guidance. I took my 96 LX450 to a mechanic to diagnose, but I am afraid I just spent money replacing items that were tangentially related. Now I am facing the idea of an expensive electrical diagnosis/ overhaul with a specialist.

Current issue, approximately after 10 miles of driving from start up (when engine has been shut off for more than 24 hours), the turn signal indicators and the "R"everse dash lamps both light up, the heater/AC/ blower unit sputters, and the transmission does not shift into a 4th gear (even at 4-6k RPM). Also the headlights do not turn on unless I toggle the "brights" lever. As mentioned above, I took this to a mechanic to find the short, but ended up replacing both the transmission switch and dash console ($$$) This mechanic cannot find the short, but I suspect its related to the cigarette lighter and/ or rear heater switch as initiating both tend to change the status of the dash lamps. I've read about similar issues with the Neutral Safety Switch (Reverse and Neutral Dash Lamp), but doesn't really explain why this issue initiates only after driving it around a while. Anyone have had similar experience or recommendations?

Sounds like your ground cables are not attached or making good contact.

There are 6 locations to be checked.
