Question

1. Is there some type of self resetting circuit breaker on the main wiring harness?
My guess is that it is separate circuit for the trailer wiring to protect the vehicle form some type of catastrophic failure.

Here is what’s been going on so far.

On my ’98 100, I found the original trailer converter box to be bad. In doing so, I had found that the main wiring harness had power going in and when I plugged in the converter box; I had no right turn or stop light on the trailer. (It was due to the bad converter) What I found was, when I went back to the main wiring harness I now had no power to the RT turn wire. I took a short break and came back and it was now on. The New harness form C-Dan did the trick & it all worked.
Now here’s where it gets interesting. I decided to buy a new trailer and to make a long story short my new converter box “quit” working (Most likely due to the incompetent guy doing the wiring).
When I went to pick up the trailer the right turn & brake did not work.(It had been working fine until they started to mess with it). I left the LC with them to fix it & the next day they said it was a bad converter box. So they fixed it for me. And you know they can’t do anything with out those u-haul connector taps for the wires. Yes, they butchered up the tail lights. (As soon as I get this figured I will try and get them to reimburse me for the install of the wiring & they agreed to work with me.)
I got home with the new trailer and decided to see what’s going on with the converter box. I started at the main wiring point which I had all power I reconnected the 7way plug, hooked it to the trailer. No lights, not one. The main wiring harness was now all dead. A short while later its back on again.
I installed the new wiring harness and hooked it to the trailer and all worked.
I am leery about removing the RV’s quick-fix, because if there is some sort of problem with the wiring on the vehicle. I do not what to be stuck with out lights. Unless some here knows for sure if there is some sort of self resetting circuit breaker, then only time will tell. I have a trip in two weeks and I can post the results of my findings.

Thanks for the help.

Okay, I took my new trailer last weekend to the trials competition in the mountains of New Mexico. All the lights worked fine with no problems.
So, here’s what I’ve determined.
1. There is some type of self-resetting circuit on the Land Cruiser’s trailer wiring.
2. The new taillight converter (from C-Dan 3 months ago) went bad. But most likely the incompetent guy doing the wiring burned it up somehow.

This brings up a new question for you’ all,
Does the battery have to be connected on the trailer to keep from burning up the taillight converter?
Because the new converter had a warning on it about the ground having to be connected properly to prevent unit failure. I had it connected properly as was described in the instructions, but not sure about the battery ground on the trailer. I don’t think it would matter.
I’m guessing the ground came in contact with the hot-wire when they were working on it, causing the unit to go bad.
Thanks for any information and I hope this will help someone with a similar problem.
