Dash brake and charge idiot lights came on today.

Brake fluid is good.

Both batts at 12.70 and holding steady.

Constant 12.58 volts coming from the altenator at idle.

No loose wires found so far.

Fuseable link tests good.

Other ideas?

Driving in rain when it started. Lights, wipers, rear wiper some, and lots of load from the big ass stereo.

Your alternator is toast. Classic warning signs. Change it now...it gets worse as time goes along more and more stuff quits on you.

Damnit. I'm sure yall are right, that has to be it. I just don't want to believe it because the alternator is only 2 years old and it's oem.

Time for a Mean Green. Worth the $$ (IMHO) and will plug into the stock wiring harness. I've been down the road w/ OEM remanufactured units - normally it's the VR that dies. I've also tried local rebuilds - either way the best I could get was about 2 years before they died. MG's be in for 4 years and is still going strong.

FWIW the VR on a 62's alternator is solid state - no way to check the diods. You need to replace the VR module. BTDT too.
