There is going to be, or there has already been ruling by a judge that will force the Forest Service to close 40 of our trails in the El Dorado National Forest. This includes many trails like Barrett Lake, Strawberry, Deer Valley, etc. Basically everything except Rubicon. This is due to the lack of some study that was supposed to be completed by the Forest Service. These closures are supposed to be temporary but you know how these things work! The closures are to be in effect until the Forest Service completes the necessary studies. No word on how long it will take them to complete the necessary work. You can bet it will take some time!
What can we do? First thing- Friends of the Rubicon(FOTR) will be having their annual meeting on April 14th at 9:00 am at the CA4WD office in Sac. 8120 36th ave, 95824. There will be a representative from the Forest Service to answer questions about the closures. This is our first chance to learn and figure out where to go from here.
