anyone experienced this before? What is needed to solve the problem and cost associated with it to get check engine light turned off or at least egr code fixed. Thanks in advance...

Seems worst case scenario is: EGR valve, EGR modulator and VSV for about $300. Some get the fix for just one of the above.

Does your EGR modulator have a green label on top, or blue? Modulator is just to the passenger side of the EGR valve. You want the blue label...it is a later improved version.

The check engine light could be due to any of a thousand things. You need to pull the code to narrow down the problem area, and then follow the diagnosis procedures in the FSM to solve the problem. You can get Autozone to pull the code for free. Pepboys charges like $7. Some of the common codes (PO401 comes to mind) have been covered in volumns on this site. Pull the code, then try a search. I wouldn't just start throwing parts at it..., it could be something as simple as screwing your oil cap or fuel cap tight.
