Hi guys,

I'm a new owner of an 02 LC100 with no lift. I don't really plan on a lift anytime soon either. My offroading is a few trips to Rausch Creek every year doing some mild wheeling and also heading out on the dunes every summer on the Cape. I joined a local club last year, but found out its not really for beginners and/or stock vehicles. And lastly, though not offroading, we have been seeing our fare share of snow here in the North East.

I realize that a larger heavier tire will affect fuel economy, acceleration and braking etc. I've searched/read through the tire section and have found some threads on the effects on going to tires bigger than 285's. So I'm trying to get some feedback on going 275/70-16 to 285/75-16. How much does it effect fuel economy, does it feel sluggish, does braking feel that much worse ? I've got Michelin LTX M/S (275)'s now, two pretty decent and 2 fairly worn. I looked up some weights and each tire's about 15 lbs more:

275/70-16 ** Load Range * Diameter * Weight * Tread Depth
BF Goodrich AT TA KO ** D 30.2 50.9 15
Michelin LTX M/S ** E 31.3 39.7 12
Yokahama Geolander ATS ** SL 31.4 42.7 13

285/75-16 ** Load Range Diameter Weight Tread Depth
BF Goodrich AT TA KO ** E 33 56.8 15
BF Goodrich Rugged Terrain ** E 59
Cooper Discoverer A/T3 ** E 32.55 57 17
Cooper ST Maxx ** E1 32.9 54.8 18.5
Cooper Discoverer STT ** D 33.1 58 18.5
Falken Wildpeak AT ** SL 54.8
Firestone Destination AT ** E 32.8 53 15
Goodyear Duratrac ** E 33.1 54.8 18
General Grabber AT2 ** D 32.8 56.4 16/32
Michelin LTX A/T2 ** E 32.8 55.2 16
Michelin LTX M/S 2 ** D 55
Michelin LTX M/S 2 ** E 32.8 51.9 13.5
Yokahama Geolander ATS ** D 33.1 55.3 18

I know the 285's look better but how much does it change the driving experience ? Thanks for any feedback.

I think a great tire you have overlooked...aand is probably lighter than many on that list....is the Bridgestone Revo II A/T

Great E range road tire and exceptional off road traction. I only run them to about 40k but my guesstimate is that would easily make 60k with proper care.

The last set I took off I sold for $300...and looked very good still.

I currently run the 265/70/17's on my 4Runner...but I'm putting on the the 285/70/17's this spring.
