Hi Guys, l'm having an issue with my edic/preheater unit, the ute starts okay & runs all day but if l leave it off for a few hours & start it again it runs fine for a few miles & then starts juddering when l unplug the edic it stops doing it ?..l removed the edic took it out the case & found its previously been repaired & the motherboard has a crack across it running from the middle of the bottom to 1' up to the right.. through 4 diodes which have been re-soldered & it interconnects across all 4..? Now l found a source on ebay which updates the edic motherboard with chip tech, so thought l'd buy l & try it...it worked fine for 50mls then the 'new' edic started smoking so there's something going & l'm getting into electrics l know little about. If l send both the edic/motherboard away for checking/repair, l'm told l can attach a cable to the fuel pump to start the ute bypassing the edic/preheater would a fresh pull cable be the cable to do this ? Any help appreciated.

The motorised edic unit on the injection pump pushes the arm back and forth to cut fuel to the engine.
If you remove the edic unit, or at least release the ball joint from the arm, then you'll be able to position the arm manually in either the 'Run' or 'Stop' position.
My old 45 never had this luxury, so I have a pull knob on the dash which performs the same function - you can duplicate this as a work around using a universal choke cable or similar.

Anything that can move it back and forth.
Depending on the model, I think some need to be forward while some need to be back.
Mine pulls towards the bulkhead to cut fuel.
Check your engine manual, and you can see what the markings on the lever mean

Mine pulls to the bulkhead to cut out...l've tried it manually. The fresh start cable has a coiled end l can probably add a nut/bolt too...then add a spring to return it. l take it'll start okay without the fuel boost or l can still use the throttle to give it a boost in the morning...

Mine doesn't drive forwards on the cable for fuel boost but I guess you could rig something up with a second cable perhaps..?
Mine does fuel boost via vacuum.
Give it a try and find out?
