Im buying a 2000 LC that does not run. It cranks over but will not start. Supposedly two mechanics have scanned it and determined it needs an ECM. Where is the ECM located on these trucks? What would cause one to fail? My family truck is a 2000 LC, can I take the ECM out of mine and throw it in the one Im buying for testing purposes? Do I run the risk of hurting mine? Just curious if its worth pulling mine to make this other truck run to load it on a trailer easier.

I would try swapping the EFI fuse on it with a 30 amp. It might just be the immobiliser issue that is well documented on this site, have a little read up on it. I personally wouldn't swap the ECM just incase.

Agree.

I wouldn't be inclined to go directly to the ECM. Check the fuse AND the fuse panel first.

Look at the security light, it may just be an ECM v Key problem.

I don't think it will be that easy. Isn't the immobilizer controlled by the ECM? If so, if you put you ECM in the other truck, the ECM is expecting the chip in your key, but your key won't turn the ignition cylinder in the other truck. Maybe if you had a simple brass key and held the head of the key for your truck at the cylinder, but I agree with the other posts above that it is probably misdiagnosed and this would accomplish little to nothing.

Try the EFI fuse. If that doesn't do it, try swapping the ECM. It is paired with your fob, so remove guts from other fob and replace with yours or just hold key near ignition ring.

Update: I made a quick trip from Dallas to south central Louisiana and back to pick up my new dirt cheap 300k mile LC. I bought it with intentions of using it for parts. My current family rig was rear ended and is in need of a new rear upper and lower hatch, bumper, tail light, and a few other parts. I told myself, and the wife, if it was more than a simple fix then I was going to scavenge it for the parts I needed, then part the rest out to recover my costs.

I hate to say I doubted the members of this forum, but a simple fuse change seemed too simple. I pulled the 20 amp EFI fuse and it looked fine. However I replaced it with a new 30 amp fuse and the thing fired right up!! I'll be smiling over this deal and fix for the next few months. I'm leaning towards selling my DD and replacing it with this. I have a little good gas mileage Subaru, but love the size, utility, and practically of the LC. What is lacks in mileage it makes up for everywhere else. It definitely feels like it has 300k on the clock, but aside from the sunroof everything works, plus 4 new tires! Looks like my search for a parts truck just started over.

It is an awesome sight and feeling to have two 100 series sitting in the drive way. The "his" and "hers" trucks.

Thanks again for the advise!!
