I am planning a long weekend fishing trip with my dad and brother, anyone willing to share a good day hike lake or stream in and around the Bishop area (1-2 hour driving distance) you have had success with?

I have done most of the South lake - North lake area, June Lake -Silver Lake area and most trails around Mammoth, looking to hike in a few miles fish and hike out. The last few trips, at Cottonwood basin and Mammoth had tons of people and little to no fish. Cottonwood was cool catching and releasing golden trout, but I was also a 100 feet away from campers washing their hair in the lakes. Mcgee Creek near Lake Crowly was not busy, but no fish and pack horses crapping on the trail and streams. Been up Onion Valley, Mt Whitney portal, same thing lots of people no fish or fishing areas. Don't think they stock much anymore since $ ran out.

Mainly looking for a quite off the beaten path (Non-Griswald, Brady bunch, REI crew, etc) areas that require a bit of work or 4WD to get to and out of in a day. There has got to be an area I have not been that fits this description.

Would love to back pack into remote areas again, but me being out of shape and my pop now 84, that is out of the questions.

Any suggestions appreciated and I will keep it secret.

Tried the link but it did not connect, am still considering coyote flats but depends if I take the 80 or not given I get more than double the mileage out of my other vehicles. Don't seem to know how good fishing is there but may be worth a try. May also try the Piute pass trail and hit up the lakes going up, I came down this way years ago after a long trip so we just hiked through and didn't fish.

If you have had luck in in other areas let me know. I did find a comprehensive fishing resource but not a lot of trail info with it.

I guess I will chime in. I live here (Crowley Lake) and was raised in the eastern sierras. I would suggest Parker Lake out of June Lake but I haven't fished it for years, so unknown on the fishing. It was good when I did it. Have you tried Valentine Lake? Off the trail to Laurel Lakes, just outside of Mammoth. I would try there first. Both incredibly beautiful places and most of the tourist have gone home because of the school year starting.

Good Luck,
Rick

Thanks for the reply. Ended up catching several in the Marie Louise lakes on the way to bishop pass, didn't, see another sole or many footprints over 2 days.
