Early horn buttons.

I have seen the black ones many times but I was digging through one of my lv boxes and came across this chrome unit. Is this a factory option in the 60s?? Or lv specific??

Mine is chrome underneath the black (it's chipping off). Maybe someone stripped it when it started to chip?

The early horn buttons were chrome and some black.
Yours has been stripped of the black part.

I'm not sure on that... there are no signs of black anyhere on this.. that's what got me thinking

maybe it is the lighting or the crazing on the black one but some of the letters look different between the 2.
the "Y" for 1 looks different, but maybe it is my old eyes playing tricks on me.

Let me clarify what I said. The early horn buttons were chrome with black. Basically the ring around the center plastic was painted black. It could easily be removed (what I think happen to the above example).

At some point later, they changed to painted black, no chrome whatsoever. Here are some examples. First pic is chromed with black paint ring. The second pic shows both types. I also noticed the center plastic is different in a few.
