Just got to thinking...ouch...will my e-brake cable need to be replaced with an extended one after installing a toyota four speed in an old three spd model-66 F40? I kept the older t/c. Who's come across this? Figures I'll need a new one as I spent most of an afternoon getting the old one all frred up and lubed. AT fluid soak worked best. BTB just sent a sale flyer and has an extended cable for $135-another ouch! Seen any cheaper? Thanks for any info/ideas.

Yes it will need to be changed.

Find a used one...

Good luck!

I just put an sm420 (3 inches longer than the 3 speed) in my 64 FJ40 over the weekend and my stock ebrake cable fits fine. I re-routed it a little higher over the rear motor/bellhousing mount to get it away from the exhaust, but it fits fine. I imagine the 4 speed would be similar in length.

Good luck,
Eric

The 420 trans is 10.50 inches in lenght.

The Toyota four speed is 12 inches in lenght..

It might work...

I have replaced them when I have done the swap...

Good luck!

pretty sure Spector has a cable or cable extender, I know someone does. Or just get one for a 4 speed set up......it must be longer.....right?

SOR sold me a one piece cable for my old 3spd. Now, with the 4spd in, the length is perfect and has used up the extra slack. It was also pretty inexpensive.
