I read some of the posts about this after mine started happening. I can't seem to find anything on the sensor in the resevoir cap on my '96 TLC in the FSM. Is there a resistance test for this sensor or some way to test it to see if it is bad? The fluid level is fine and the e-brake works fine also.

unplug the sensor, if the light goes out it's bad.

Sorry forgot to mention, the light comes and goes. It's not on all the time.

And check your brake fluid level. It's probably low

Fluid level is good. About 3/4 of the way towards max between the min and max lines.

The float switch should either be open or closed so the light should be either off or on bright nothing in between unless the switch is faulty. I've been on various boards for almost 6 years now and I don't think that anybody who has had this problem had anything but that switch fix it.

Already contacted Dan. Just wanted to test it before I threw parts at it. I worked all night so I will disconnect it and check it out when I wake up.

mine likes to stay dimly lit...sometimes less dim...sometimes more dim...

I think I'll unplug that sucka to see if it shuts off. I've had it not light up for short periods, but never very long.

I need to place a CDan order anyhow...

Doug,

Does your cruise control work? I'd heard it won't if that sensor's malfunctioning.

Yeah, CC's working just fine. I hadn't heard that correlation before.

Light came on again, unplugged it and it went out. Plugged it in and it came back on. Fluid level is good so I guess I will be ordering from Dan real soon.

Same here. Just another thing to add to my list for CDan

Who cares about the light and sensor. You prolly wont forget to check your fluid level from time to time and if you don't know when your e-brake is on then you have other problems! haha I had the same prob, unplug and leave it. no worries, not gonna hurt anything.

On my 4runner the light had the dim-on deal and it was the e-brake switch, replaced it and no more problem.

What is nice about having the light is it can let you know when the brake pads have worn to the point of reducing the fluid level. This has happened to me and others. With the tires I run and the stereo on I have never heard those pad sensors.
