Gday everyone,
I’ve got a 97 DX 80 series that has manual mirrors, now as all old diesel Toyota mirrors do, they shake. Constantly. I believe the power mirrors don’t shake like the manual ones do, so I’m just wondering, other than sourcing and fitting the actual power mirrors and the switch on the dash, do I need anything else for the conversion? Is there a module somewhere or maybe another harness is needed? I do believe there is some unused wiring behind that panel where the switch would sit but I’m not sure if it’s the right one. Just wondering if anyone else has done this or if anyone has some photos of their gxl mirror switch harness by any chance.
Thanks!!

I've done exactly this. It's an easy drop-in, however you do need the door harnesses, ones that are compatible with your year model. All the dash wiring is there, but on a DX model you should have manual windows and no door speakers, and from memory, no door harness at all. The power mirrors themselves don't need anything extra other than the switch and the mirrors.

Be aware though, in my experience problems with shaky mirrors are worse on the power mirror versions, not better. There's a weak mounting system used on the power versions that always breaks, and I do mean always. There's a solution for it, search MUD for the "shaky mirror fix". When I sourced my power mirrors, from two separate sources, I found one was held on with cable ties inside, and the other one with a massive blob of silicone. All these power mirrors break, you need to expect to buy the "shaky mirror fix" brackets if you switch to power mirrors.

Awesome, thanks man!

Ha, power mirrors still shake! I think the mirrors that last the longest without adjustment are the pickup mirrors that pivot on the mirror stem and aren't inside a mirror housing.

Yes the internal wiring should be present but the doors on a DX have no wiring and there will be usually no wiring holes in the pillars but the late model 80's could have got that as a standard thing. My 1992 DX has no wiring holesin the A or B pillars.

My 1996 80 had holes in the A and B pillars, with plugs installed. Must have changed at some point in the middle.
