These were taken by Desert Dude (Pasquale) on the "other" Death Valley trip at about the same time as Rusty-Dan's trip. Spresso-Dan was there representing the Reno crowd, so I thought I would post it here. Spresso-Dan should have his own photos soon as well.
The lady ranger was extremely interested in going over steel pass with us. I invited her along and said we would bring her back down the stairsteps that afternoon. I figured the good PR with the Park Service would be a good thing.
She had a blast, and was a really nice gal as well. We took her over steel pass, and then delivered her back to Eureka Dunes, and spotted her down the stairsteps. Her 4Runner with boards didn't get a scratch.
Frickin awesome!!!!!
Getting me psyched to go next month!
That is a TON of pics. Looks like the weather was great to boot.
Some of those places I had never been to before.
Was the "charly was here" pic form the Manson ranch?
Thanks for posting up Andy!
Glad you guyz had a good time!

wow! thanks for all the pictures. They were amazing. I have only been to DV once, and that was to race track area. I really need to do one of those trips. Of course, I think I am a lot simpler than you guys, wine, espresso...lol. Simple food for a simple guy. How much gas did you carry with you/how much do you think you used? Looks like you guys had a blast.
I think Andy and Pasquale have 13-gallon sub-tanks plus their ~25 gallon mains. I've got 25x2. We refueled in Beatty, topped off at Furnace Creek and also at Panamint Springs...and of course Big Pine before we headed into DV via Eureka Dunes/Dedeckera Canyon.
Regarding the indulgences: "One man's ceiling is another man's floor"... Its all good. I can eat beans n' weenies or I can go full tilt boogie gourmet. But I gotta tell ya: Sipping a nice cappuccino in the cool A.M., after eating home-made baby back ribs, kabobs, wild desert big horn skewered on rosemary twigs and grilled over mesquite, prosciutto wrapped grilled asparagus, wonderful breakfast scrambles, panna cotta dessert, etc. the night before isn't a bad way to roll
And then a nice little shot o'spresso for a mid-afternoon pick-me-up makes it all the more special.
The Espressos every morning were a real treat. That was pretty fun.
We never really had fuel issues. I had my main and a factory subtank. The most gas I added was in Beatty and that was 24 gallons or so.
We covered a lot of ground, maybe 350 offroad miles, and saw the remote Northern end of the park, Dedeckera, Steel Pass, Thule Canyon, Phinney Canyon then cross countried to Rhyolite, Titus, gas at Furnace Creek, Butte Valley, South Park, Pleasant Canyon, Defense Mine, Darwin Falls, And the town of Darwin. Good sampling of the park.
I am not so fortunate to have a sub tank...lol. Would 3-5 5 gallon cans be sufficient for a trip like this? Along with filling up when you can ?
Food...
Told my co-worker about the food you guys had and she was laughing. She said I thought those guys were out there roughing it, I said they were, thats just how they eat. She laughed harder.
Jon,
Yes with 3) 5 gallon cans of gas plus your ~ 25 gallon main tank you'll be fine. You just need to top off before entering and plan your refueling spots accordingly.
We've done it before we had aux tanks or the ability to carry extra fuel in containers. It was a PITA but it can be done! So with 15-gallons extra you'll be fine.
Its OK: A number of folks laugh about our trail fare...until they get a taste .
Funny: I told A & P about your's exiting...Pasquale almost ripped his rear DS fender flare off at Chicken/Scary Bridge. Your's is probably still up on the Ubehebe trails somewhere .
