I just thought I'd bring this to the attention of this group.

I've been reading a lot of articles in the LA Times and online about the new attack front that the greenies are going to start using against offroaders.

Dust.

Yes, dust. When you ride in the desert, the wheels churn up dust, and this dust is detrimental to the health of the planet. Apparently it settles in the snowfields, causing the snow to melt early, causing flooding and overflowing reservoirs.

Colorado dust storms speed snowmelt - Los Angeles Times

In "Letters to the Editor", the comments on this article were running strongly in favor of the greenies and against us.

Just an FYI, we'll be seeing more of this argument in the perennial battle for public land access rights.

Dust outweighed by kilotons of ash from wildfires greenies say we should allow to burn 'naturally' in Yellowstone, as well as megakilotons from volcanic ash, which we of course promulgated.

One of the greenie's favorite naturalists actually said it best:

"Ever since European settlement of the West, there has been dust"

No dust before Europeans? Wow!

Obviously the article was written by someone who never spends any time outside of a city and wrote it for the consumption of those with the same lack of experience.

Ever since the ice age ended, the glaciers melted and receded dust has increased. I guess it was evil Europeans that caused the Ice Age to end.

Guess what remained after thousands of years of ice grinding against rock? Dust!!!

It kills me when I hear about global warming, global cooling. As if the greenies really knew the correct setting of the Earth's thermostat.

News flash: the Ice Age is over and glaciers will continue to melt until they are all gone or another Ice Age starts again.

Arrogance indeed. The planet has been cycling itself for over 4 billion years, and will continue to do so whether we are here to partake or not. But make no mistake, they are serious about dust. Southern Nevada is constantly up against air quality non-attainment citations W/R/T air borne particulate matter (DUST). Most of the back roads on BLM land around Las Vegas are now closed because of this (IN THE OUTDOORS: Vast off-highway vehicle closure stirs ire - Sports - ReviewJournal.com). Keep fighting.......

Same thing in the Palm Springs area, with regard to dust from construction sites. If a contractor allows any dust to escape from the site, he's in for some pretty big fines. There are signs posted with phone numbers for people to call in complaints.

However, the force driving this ordinance isn't snow melt and global warming, it's the nuisance factor from the neighbors

Well, I can tell you the alternative energy companies seem to be getting the message. EVERY proposal we have heard at the BLM steering committee meetings for the last six months has an extensive dust control program outlined in the proposal.

The repsresentative for the Ridgecrest Chamber of Commerce was disappointed that Solar Millenium withdrew their plans to use recycled grey water from the city [which the city stood to net a profit on selling to SM] during their construction of the solar site south of town. They WILL have water, but from another source.
