Durhamtown February 19-21, 2010

yeah lets start a new thread for February... for those that have never been here are a few comments:

1- HUGE, did I say gigormous? Offroad park and 95% of visitors are ATV and motorcycles.
2- Huge club house with food, fireplace, where you buy passes, and sells firewood.
3- Camping area is behind and on left of main road....lots of room when we went last February.
4- 4x4 trails are virtually unused...or were. The storm went through 2 weeks before our visit last year and we had trees across some of the 4x4 trails where we were the first ones to use them. Only saw maybe 10 other vehicles the whole day on them.
5- If it rains it is slippery...as is a lot of North Georgia mud/clay mix.
6- There are cabins you can rent as well if you dont want to sleep in a tent...they are limited so may want to call now.
7- I have a trail map and link to location I gave Josh for website...if he cant get the maps up before then I will post them here.
8. They sell breakfast, lunch and dinner in main cabin if you dont want to cook.
9. If you turn left there is a gas station in nearby town...easier to find with GPS than with directions from girls at counter. LOL

It was a good time with our small group...
Map is upside down...I did not scan it..>Durhamtown did. :D

I went back through the other post but could not find a date, if one was decided on. So here's the new thread anyway.

The club calendar says we blocked out weekend of 19-21 February 2010 for Wheeling at Durhamtown....Valentines Day is weekend prior so all the guys ought to be out of dog house and all the women ought to be swooning over us men still. :D

I updated OP to reflect exact dates. I also contacted Durhamtown and they said the trails are still open and reason it is not reflected on website is they close them during HUNTING SEASON for 4x4 use...but are now open and they look forward to us coming back.

Yeah...the only thing I found for wheeling vehicles was a pic of a Jeep...
Maybe they will update it soon

I am trying to work it. I think I will be there, but I will have to do it like last year. Sleep over friday night and wheel saturday and then take off.

last time we just showed up and it was first come first served as there are no assigned camping spots...it is a large semi open wooded area and you just pick a spot and pitch a tent. Only reservations taken are for the cabins themselves...

Hey guys, the Ga Cruisers are goin' to DT that same weekend. We went there for the first time last July and it pretty good, that is until it gets wet. If it gets wet that place turns into a mud fest!!!!

Pics from 09

cool deal>>>>How many do you expect??

yeah we know...last february it was wet after a couple big storms and frozen too...so when it thawed all the water would come to top. Sticky, glue like red georgia clay :) First trail was a down hill with terraces...slid whole way down. LOL

still too early to say but wouldn't surprise me to have 8-10 rigs, all depends on the weather i guess.

That said, if it rains like a mother leading up to it we may opt for another day. Since you guys have been out there you know all the trails are mostly red Ga clay which makes for a super mess. :bang:

yes it does....makes some fun and some dangerous for sure. If it is raining the week prior and I call and they say it is soupy or just muddy....what do we want to do for a backup?

Only things really left this time of year is Gulches or an overnighter in western North Carolina...or a big HAMOM if Doc is ready to fire his rig up and make it driveable.

If it is too bad in Durhamtown, we could always do another expedition (scouting) trip in the same place as last time.
It's a little farther, but not by much.
Let's wait before we change anything, though.

i agree...3-5 days out we can check on what weather is happening and decide...will just change the meeting location. I would not mind returning to same place and just relaxing a couple days there in hammock around fire with a little wheeling.

Works for me!!!

have you guys called them or checked their website lately. I don't see full size truck trails being promoted on their site anymore. And the photo gallery shows the 4x4 section labeled as "archives"
