I know a good deal of people here are very familiar with the area and was wondering what is/was the private property that is in the middle of the Dupont Forest?

http://ncforestservice.gov/Contacts/pdf/dsf/DuPont Trail Map.pdf

Google maps shows what looks like quite a maze of foundations and maybe some excavating? Looking at doing some mtn. biking in new territory and thought I would download the map for reference and it just made me wonder. Not working on a conspiracy theory or anything!

Thanks

So from what I have been told, the Dupont State Forest land was donated by the Dupont company who used to have an X-Ray products manufacturing facility on that site, and the "no public" area is where that facility was. Due to having that type stuff out there it might be a health/safety/national security type thing.

The falls area is awesome. I know that much.

There is some awesome mountain biking in Dupont...I suggest parking in the Corn Mill Shoals parking area and riding Burnt Mountain...one of my favorite trails! Have fun!

It's where I got engaged...absolutely beautiful area, my parents live like 5 min from there and JP had his reception not too far from there

It is a former manufacturing facility, first owned by E. I. du Pont de Nemours and Company then later Agfa Film (or I may have that bass-akwards). The old airfield that is in the forest was used by both the plant and a kid's summer camp that was in the forest.

There are some absolutely great mountain bike trails in the forest that range from easy to hard. You can get a pass to drive a vehicle on the forest roads for the physically challenged. I was going to do that for my step father who lived in the area, but he passed before I could make it happen.
