(Note-I originally posted this in the recent forum etiquette thread, as that is what got me to thinking about the subject, but I think this is worthy of a new thread)

While we are on the topic of forum etiquette-

Someone has already mentioned the old SOR forum, from where this 80 series list got many (most?) of its users, and character. And, as has been noted other times, this list has a somewhat unique (as internet forums) go character of (mostly) helpful, respectful posts.

Remembering back to the SOR days, as a newbie to cruisers and internet forums, Beowulf in particular, and C-Dan, stand out in my memory as being the ones that directed the forum and shaped it into what it was, and hence helped shape this list as well. If those SOR'ers will remember, there were no actual mods of the lists, the actual Admin rarely posted, it was completely up to the users to define the list. B and C dan took that responsibility without any mod title, and managed to keep the forum focused, fun and friendly.

Maybe this is not the correct place for this, however, while reading the discussion on forum etiquette, I began to try and discern why this list is so much different from most other internet forums, and I believe it is the combination of the unique foundation that -B- and C-dan laid back at SOR, and the continuing efforts of our gracious host Woody and mod Junk.

I personally think that we owe Beowulf and C-Dan thanks for helping to initially shape the character of the forum that we all enjoy so much.

P.S. -someone correct me if this has been brought up before, I have not been reading the 80 list much until recently. Just the same-

Thanks!

I will be personally showing my appreciation to Dan tomorrow$$$$. Need a few things I've been putting off.

I never was part of the sor board, but the way you describe it, it sounds like it's set up similar to the cool cruisers of texas board.

This is my personal favorite place to spend my time on the internet. You don't necessarily get flamed as you do on other boards, just "directed" usually in a polite manner. ;)

This forum is shaped by a combination of very different personalities ... and yet we are centered by a small handful . I think we all respond to character , class , and reliability ... nuff said

Heres to the best cruiser forum on the planet !

hats off to them all, and especially Woody, before SOR closed its forum there wasnt an 80's section on here. This place has grown a lot since then, in large part due to Woody being willingness to help meet the needs of all landcruiser owners, even those with a Lexuss :D

I follow a number of message boards and this one is definatly my favorite. Not just because its about my favorite subject. There is no bs about "first post" or useless posting. If people don't know and post, its usually to direct the person to somone who would know. Its a pleasure to read.

This is my homepage. What else!
Cheers,
Sean

You guys better start thanking Junk for the great mod work and the humor or this will be in chit chat faster than a Disco leaks oil. :D

Seriously though this is a great board and I too love spending my free time here. The likes of B and CDan were very friendly and Simon guided my through importing my 80 into Canada. Plus many more guys have helped out tons.

Very much a second home. And if I don't quite spending so much time here... I will be looking for a second home and a new job.

Also I am very far in another corner of this world I still use this forum daily.

B still calls me Mikey but here we all have to thank him

C-Dan is another great person. I was glad to assist him in a very small manner at the time he got his rear licence plate frame. His e-mail contacts were very pleasant and also I won't ever feed his dogs I will keep the contact going.

What would we do without our beloved Cruiserforum

Mike
