Does anyone know about swapping a gas for a diesel engine?? What diesel should i use, costs, potential problems......is it even feasible??

Its been done and there are threads. G&S has one which looks completley factory... search away and you'll find the info.

search for 4BT

Expect to spend 10-12K even if you do most of the work yourself. I'd love to be way more environmentally friendly burning 100% bio, however, 10-12K is a lot of gas, plus having to make the fuel, unless you have money and time to burn.

1HD-T would be the way to go in a 80. G&S may be able to source the engine. I'd be afraid of wiring it for sure. IH8ELECTRONICS and wish things were simpler.

Or go here. http://www.proffittscruisers.com/diesel/index.html

i found a cheap nice LX doner truck that the engine is failing.......$5000 for the truck, but i bet i can get it for 3-4K

i couldnt do the work myself...i would have to get someone to put it in...

Meriam had done one for one of the Georgia cruiser guys

I spoke with the guys at Proffits. They are very knowledgeable. They indicated there was about a 1 year waiting list... I wish I could find a place to do a swap here in California.

As you are in the USA, going with a Cummins is probably the easiest choice, although the 1HDT is a great engine.

Hold on a minute there biznitch............................

Does that mean I would have to put up with you in 80's tech frequently........:flipoff2:

Got a friend with a 1HZ in Winston-Salem, NC.
It was fired up about a weekago and ran smooth.
It is forsale.
Only about 60km on the engine if I remember right.
He also has 2 13BT's.
Let me know if you are interested.

This is the tech section, please take the chat elsewhere. You would think a mod would know better.

Contact Luke at 4x4 Labs he has done some swaps?

Luke has done diesel swaps.

I'm not sure if he's done one in an 80...but it's always best to check.

You wont be able to get it for 3k. I wish I had the money to do the swap or I would keep it. I will miss this one. but hope to get my new one soon...

You guys are crazy. Why would you want a diesel? Less power, more noise, diesel stink everywhere... Maybe I am biased because 95% cruisers here are diesels and I am fed up with them and their tractor-like sounds, but anyway... If it's working, why change it. Gasoline engines are nice and clean. What's the problem with you? LOL

Sorry for spoiling your diesel plans...

Proof the grass is always greener on the other side?

I still want a stinker :D

When I was there getting my rear bumper in October he was putting a big, brand new beautiful Cummins in a 60 series.

Looked like a friggin' nightmare to me, but that guy is an artist.

He is a plethora of good info.

Good luck.
