Drivetrain difference between 99 and 00 100 series

Is it true that Toyota added a 4 pinion IFS the 100 as opposed to a 2 pinion? I've read that because the the pinion gear would flex away from the ring gear, and this was the fix for it.

I'm trying to decide on my next vehicle, and I want something off road capable and reliable. Was looking at land rovers, but they seem to suck at reliable.

Land cruisers seem to be the ticket, but I do need the balance of on and off road, so 100 series seem prime.

Yes, the 100 got the four pinion front differential in 2000. Along with ATRAC with no rear locker option. The diff upgrade + traction control makes the 00+ more desirable to some/most.
