My GX has developed this issue in the past month. When I put it in reverse, the passenger side mirror tilts downward all of the way (like it normally has). But, the driver's mirror only tilts down about 1/2 as much as it should. I've tried adjusting the positions of both mirrors (wtih the rig in reverse), and it has not helped. So, something is amiss with my driver's side mirror. With my rig being so darn tall, it's honestly hard to back it up into a parking spot without that feature.

It will tilt all of the way down using the manual control button, but not automatically.

Has anyone else encountered this, and how was it fixed? Looks like a new actuator motor is around $170, but I've thrown a lot of money in the rig lately and am curious on if anyone has successfully fixed this before without replacing the actuator.

I'm interested as well. My mirrors will point down in reverse, but then the passenger mirror intermittently won't go back up. I ended up turning the feature off for the time being until I figure out a fix. Would love to not have to buy new ones.

Mine went from working, angling down in reverse, to not. Now the passenger window wont go up/down manually, but the driver side does. Watching this for possible solutions

Do you have your old mirrors sitting around by any chance? If so....I might be interested in buying a used DS actuator to test the problem.

I'm sure we have a Toyota in a junkyard around here that I could pull one from, but honestly our local yard prices are super-high for everything (often more than a new aftermarket part), and the closest big ones are 1+ hour away, so I never use them. I typically get new parts or grab used stuff from eBay.

I would totally have sent them out to you, but I sold the pair to a buddy to replace his that were really beat up :/
I may just pull out the actuator and clean it up and re-grease it. Perhaps that would fix it. Honestly the actuator seems to be the only culprit that could cause the issue, unless it's a computer issue somewhere (which seems unlikely as Toyota computer modules really don't crap out very often).

My GX is showing it's age. Got all new brakes several weeks ago (GX460 upgrade). Then, the clock spring crapped out via airbag codes. This is the 2nd spring I've put in it, although the last one was a non-OEM replacement. So I dropped $230 on a new OEM clock spring. On Sunday I re-adjusted the ride height after allowing the new springs to settle. And somehow tweaked one of the mangled stock brake backing plates into a position where it was rubbing on the rotor and squealing. New OEM plates are $90 each, but I'll "adjust" them again with a screwdriver. Keeping these rigs on the road is a labor of love :).

how do you turn them "off/on"? Mine have never pointed down in reverse since I bought the thing from a salvage auction and rebuilt it over the last 2 years.

I have an Autel MaxiDAS that can do all the things, if it's somewhere in that software

You'll need to have the mirror adjustment switch set to "L" or "R". If it's in the center, they don't drop. If it's set to adjust either mirror, they will drop. Most every Toyota seems to have this feature - my wife's 2023 Highlander is set up the same way.

Weird. That's the opposite of how my BMW tilt down in reverse mirrors work. I'll check it out in a bit

It's certainly a strange and non-intuitive setting. But I'm glad these rigs have it. I dislike driving vehicles without it, after getting used to it.

My left mirror will not tilt all the way down in warm-hot weather. In cool weather it’s all good.

My driver side side mirror also stopped tilting down in reverse in the last year. When I replaced the passenger side mirror which had a cracked cover by the PO, the internals looked fairly corroded. I've thought about spraying WD40 or some penetrating oil into the driver mirror but haven't found it annoying enough yet to deal with that potential mess.

Damn you rednexus , I didn't realize mine was doing this until now lol...Passenger side tilts pretty far down, driver side only goes about half as far.... Will have to wait for someone with more patients than me to figure this one out. until then, just back up until you hit something

I open up the mirror sometime in the next month-ish and repost back to this thread. Hopefully cleaning and re-greasing is all these need....

My GX mirrors are fine, but my '99 LX470 mirror doesn't fully tilt down in reverse. I'll await the conclusion posted here!

I may be the weirdo here, but this is the most annoying feature of my GX so far. It may be because the passenger mirror tilts down so far that all I can see is the rear tire, but I'm not sure what I'm missing vs. never having this capability in a vehicle before and never needing it.
It's a techstream or fancy code reader requirement to cancel this feature?

Put the mirror adjuster switch in the center and they won't tilt at all.

You can also adjust where they tilt too. Just adjust the mirror with the rig in reverse, then it will remember that spot for next time.
