I am looking at a few engine, tranny and transfercase combos. I keep reading that you have to be careful not to make the drive line too short, but have not found any measurenents as to what is too short. I have a 72 fj40 all sock. I measured the rear drive line and it is around 24.5" long. What is the shortest any of you have done without any real problems. I am using it half as a daily driver and half off road. I have no lift now but would like to use the OME 2.5" later. I will keep searching for that information out there but with 2 young kids and work I have very little time to sit and read all day. Plus my wife is about ready to send me and the Cruiser packing so any info would be very appreciated. I would like to keep it stock, but have a friend who has a few very good combos that I can work off the cost. So some times money talks.

do you use that on the highway at all? And is there any vibration problems? Also what is your setup that makes it that short. Thanks for your replies.

Tom Woods advertises as short as 10 or 12":hmm:

You've no doubt seen this? Tom Wood's Custom Drive Shafts - Driveline 101

chevy 350/TH350/NP203/Toy Case doubler and flipped rear springs = 22" rear driveline. Sprung over on 42's. No probs whatsoever.

I drove my cruiser again for the first time in over a year today. I just finished a Vortec 350 swap, 4l60, aa adapter to 3 speed case. I used electric fan, moved the rear axle back 4" and wound up with a 20" rear driveshaft.

I ran 70 on the interstate with no vibe, also did a helluva brake stand.....

:beer::beer:

lots of military trucks came with 2 slip joints between the tranny and t case some are only 6 or so inches long.the length is determined by the angle of the d shaft if its really short you cant angle it as much as a longer one .if the truck is stock probably wont matter if its soa then you will need some lenght to make it work good luck
