no o, srpls - but I couldn't disagree more -
take that bad boy and make it yours, not something for others to enjoy.

I have had collector autos, and resented them because you not only worry about where you park, but now it's the weather, will it rain, and how many miles am I putting on it?; all chasing a perception that it will change in value (very small amt in the grand scheme, there is just not a booming "LC original" collectors market at car shows) or that some one ELSE will view it less favorably.

We do not own and drive 80's vintage LCs to conform. Quite the opposite.

go buck naked crazy and enjoy that bastid

only MHO

since this young guy is in the USAF and they will pay to move his stuff on transfer... he should try to get posted to germany or england and bring that bad boy over there... (my brother in law is still driving the 16 year old ancient turbo saab that he bought when posted in germany. that vehicle got shipped back to the USA when he was stationed at eglin and then back to belgium when he was posted to a NATO job there and then back to eglin again.) FJ62-rAf is already shipping it from san diego to maryland (i think)... it is a great way for that LC to do a lot of travel and none of it will show up on the speedo, since the odometer is already showing 153,207.

then he can sell it in europe for 18 to 20K euros and buy the diesel equivalent there like the one from norway that was cruising the states and then use the profits to trick it out after uncle sam pays to have it shipped back home.

re: your receiver hitch

I looked all over for a new receiver hitch for my fj60 and found several available including the standard (and expensive brands). I really wanted a round tube hitch or a tube bumper with the receiver built in but could not find a round tube receiver style that was manufactured specifically for the 60 series despite my persistence. The searches that I did for a tube bumper w/ receiver for the 60 usually found bumpers for the 40 or 45, not specifically for the 60.

After extensive google searches I came up with these two options as the most cost effective for new hitches… used ones were at a minimum $ 60 - $ 100 and to go on my cruiser would have required sandblasting and painting or powder coating which would have put the total cost at over $ 225 including shipping. I have never had a painted receiver look good for more than a couple of years since I fish in salt water.

Here are the links for the stock receivers that are made specifically for the 60 series that I found the most reasonable (my local hitch store wanted over $ 300 for the ‘name brand’ painted version):

http://www.CruiserParts.net/ - new receiver hitch $ 125.00 (did not know if it was painted or powder coat)

http://www.suspensionconnection.com Toyota 1984-90 Landcruiser class III trailer hitch $112.95 powdercoat

do the h2 rims have spacers?

Yes, some aluminum billet ones custom cut for this cruiser by a shop in CA. The previous owner spent some bucks. He did it right. I like the H2 wheels. It makes the FJ look a little bigger without it looking "super swammper".

About the Tow package (receiver), is there something out there that doesn't show the 2 inch square and bar across the bottom of the bumper, like a low profile receiver? On my K5 I could care less, but this truck is a bit more refined.

I love the comments, thanks to all.

Keeping it original or mod?

My take: Since I was a kid, I didn't understand the concept of buying something and not using it, enjoying it and sometimes breaking it. When I would go to "Car swapmeets/car shows", I could not stand the people that would trailer their bugs, ghias, buses, Fords, whatever. DRIVE IT... ENJOY IT. I'm going to play with this thing, if down the road I mess it up... I'll fix it. I can always pay TLC4x4 forty grand to restore it to musuem quality when I'm done having fun with it! I really don't know, for right now... I'm going to enjoy it.

What I might do (years from now): Maybe a Diesel conversion, 5 speed tranny, a snorkel??? One thing is for sure, I'll keep all the original stuff, so when I'm ready to put it in a musuem, it will all match up.

As far as $$$$, check these FJs out. Are these guys for real?

Very good IDEA!!! I might just do that. I did research the possibility of importing a HJ61 from Canada/Asia/Europe. Dept of Trans said "NO", I think 83 and older for right now. Anyway, I was considering a diesel engine swap, I'll just wait and enjoy this one. Who knows I might come back home from the overseas tour with TWO FJs!

Welcome to the group. That's a great looking rig.

Don't be put off by anyone saying that you paid a lot of money for it.
It is darn hard to find just the right rig the way you want it, and it is worth it to pay for the right one it comes along.

You now have a great rig with lots of character, that is not just another Explorer or Tahoe.

Are you going to keep it stock or throw throw some mods on it?

swweeeet! Love the color, too, champagne rules!

Though I'm sure my paint isn't nearly in as good condition as yours. My hood looks a little funky, and both doors on pass side. Just passed 200K miles!

Overwhelmed!!!!

Hey all,

I'm a bit overwhelmed One: I have been trying to read all these posts... non-stop.. like I'm studying for a final exam. Its more that I want to learn more about the Land Cruiser, but I am confused with SOAs, Lockers, tilt-o-meters, etc....

How did you all learn all this stuff? Books, videos or just hanging out with other Cruiser Heads?

The more I read the more I get curious... Is there a FJ encyclopedia or dictionary or something so that when I read a post, I don't have to sound like a DUMB A$$ asking, "What's this, What's that?" THe 4x4 world is really different.

Another question: How do you all keep up with all the posts, i come home from work and there are sooo many new posts, answers to questions, comments...is there a quick way to glance at this stuff?

Ok, OK.... I'm good now.... just lost my "ground", must be my alternator... Raf

What's a "hook"? The hook under the front bumper?

What's wrong with your pass doors? Accident?

go study, this site is not going anywhere and more info will be here when you get back.

Heck, I'd rather be studying for Cruiser finals than studying for my finals right now...crap I gotta get back to studying. Got two more finals.:crybaby:

FJ62_rAf: I think he meant his hood not "hook" and he is probably talking about paint flake, or scratches probably because zcruiser's cruiser is very clean looking.

read as much on mud as you can and then read some more. I try to only subcribe to threads that I really want to follow. If I subscribed to all of the threads I posted in it could be a chore some days.

Big bonus for me is that I can look @ mud @ work too :)

Yah, hood, not hook, used the wrong middle finger. :flipoff2:

They're really tiny microscratches, kind of all in the same direction, like stress fractures or stretch marks. Pretty sure it has never been in an accident. Other than that, the only rust I have is on the hook and the wiper arms!

Anyway, I OD'd on this board too when I got the cruiser bug and after a while you learn to just ignore thread by title that don't appear to either (a) interest you or (b) be in an area where you have anything intelligent to offer. (Not that I'm offering anything intelligent here!)

I'm just amazed at the fact that my cruiser has 200K miles and is basically trouble-free. I don't plan to put many miles on her, as (1) gas is too expensive for 12mpg and (2) I only use it on weekends for hauling stuff as opposed to a work vehicle that I need every day like some folks.

My goal this summer is to refresh ALL fluids so she'll go another 200K!
