Draining oil before crankshaft/oil pump seal replace?

Just want to confirm that i should drain my motor oil before i dive into it. Thanks.

Don't need to drain the oil for this job.

I am 80% through this job and didn't drain mine.. it should be fine unless your really detail oriented

FWIW I removed the oil filter to decrease drippage from above.

Just did my seals today but need to wait to get sandpaper for 2 small nicks in the crank.. I had a 4-5" pool of oil that I soaked up with a few paper towels without draining the oil just as what to expect. The oil is basically whats left inside the cover plate for the oil pump
