Hi, I have a 2000 LX470 with AHC removed by SLEE (AHC was toast when I got it, got a $3,000 off of the $9600 price). Slee installed (and did a great job) their 1.5" OME lift kit with diff drop and SPC UCAs. I've also added a bit of armor (BIOR sliders and full BIOR skid plates) The OME shocks are still kind of jarring, I don't really mind it but I have an injured kid and would like a softer ride while he's getting better. What are the down sides of installing Toyota LC OEM shocks? I really can't afford ICON Stage 3s, but will do that if that's the right answer.

Thanks!

I have 2.5" medium slee lift (no armor), and recently replaced my OME front shocks with OEM. The ride is smoother, and I've experienced no noticeable difference during multiple high speed trail outings that also required some rocky articulation. For the significant $ savings, I recommend going with OEM unless your weighted in the front. I don't know how much weight in the front is too much. I think a front bumper is too much, but sliders and a skid plate might be ok. For the price of OEM shocks (i think I paid $38 a piece), and the ease of R&Ring the front shocks i think it's worth a try.

I'm running OEM shocks with a Slee Blueberry and winch - before the winch (just the front bumper), it rode fine. Now, it feels like the front bumper / winch combo is just too much - the ride has gotten much harsher. It's not so bad I can't live with it but I'll eventually be looking for something that can handle the extra weight.

In your instance, OEM should work great. I've done some pretty cool trails with my setup, never had an issue with the OEM shocks.

The other point is that OEM's will limit travel over well chosen aftermarket shocks.

sorry to hear about your kiddo being injured.
Since its just temporary you could always put some weight in the truck. I bet if you put 200 pounds in the hatch the ride will feel much smoother in the rear seats. I know when I load up our LC for camping trips the ride gets much smoother with the ironman shocks I have.

Thanks for all the best wishes and replies. I would rather put an ARB front bumper on then spend the money on ICON Stage 3s right now. It sounds like OEMs would work great as well for awhile. I only do mild 4 wheeling to go hunting and camping no technical stuff, so the OEMs should work fine. A front and rear bumper would probably smooth stuff out too. Thanks again.

Well after much thought and all of your excellent advice, I'm going to try the OEM shocks and save my OME Nitro Sports for when I add bumpers and a winch. I'll let you know how they work out.

thanks again

If you get a bumper and wench and lame ass shocks it will turn like a Ford Granada.
But if your child cant take the crushing bumps with shocks then short term long term you might need a honda car for a little bit.

I forgot I have the old man emu springs hit so hard, l have had them for 20 years still kicking and I want to do all my cruisers with the same combo.

Hay kids are cute but land cruisers are cute also.

I never had kids my GF had a butter face, could not seal the deal and her ass was big or I might be gay I just dont know but I have a solid rig and the solid shocks and springs can save your ass in an emergency,

Where did you pick the shocks up at?

Jim

Look up Cruiser Dan or Beno's # for a landcruiser discount on oem parts. I picked mine up at my local Toyota dealer who matched the discounted price.

Killer story bro?

Finally replaced my OME Nitro Sport shocks with Toyota Land Cruiser OEM shocks. What a difference! Still plenty stiff enough to control roll on turns, so much better on the highway. Planning a camping trip up in the Collegiate's about 4 miles up a 4WD road in July. We'll see how they do off road. Nothing technical but a first chance to try them off road
