IIRC someone has used Dorman window lift motors before. Just picked one up for the front left door but the screw holes are not threaded and the connector does not fit into the factory harness even though they included three different wired connectors. I can tap the holes and use the connector from the original motor, but then if it turns out not to be the problem I can't return the motor once it's been cut up. So, did I get a bad part or do they all come this way??

I wound up modifying the connector ...used a pick to unplug the Toyota pins and slid then into the closest dorman one...it was a tad long thats all..

The screw holes need chasing through before install and all should be well

Fosters: so you pulled the connector off the original motor by disconnecting the wires then put the old connector on the new motor?

Checked with NAPA, they sell the same Dorman window lift motor that autozone has for $10 more, the mounting holes are not threaded, same as autozone. NAPA also sells a remanufactured unit for $100 that should be a direct fit.

When I did mine none of the harnesses that came with the dorman motor were the right ones. I just cut and spliced the old one to the motor. I ordered mine from amazon for like $30 some bucks. I don't remember the holes if they were threaded or not. I just bolted it on. I'd say as long as everything lines up then you're good.

Kaveeks thanks. Looks like there are three choices for motors; OEM, about $250, AI Cardone remanufactured for about $100 and should be a direct fit, and the Dorman motors sold by everyone else $50-60 over the counter but that need the holes tapped and the connectors swapped. I checked to be sure I had good voltage going to the window lift motor, got 12.27 Volts at the harness connector for that motor (key ON, engine off, battery voltage 12.5V).

Anyone know how to test the amp draw of a window motor? One source (A1 Cardone) says if the motor runs in both directions and draws less than 5 amps (no load) it's good.
