Newbie here, full disclosure 😊. Recently aquired a 97 stock LC. The power door locks only work on the drivers door. I have the key fob in a baggie that had written on the bag "fuse removed", I'm assuming this meant the security system? I replaced the fob battery and it seems to be trying to communicate but does not lock or unlock any door. Thoughts appreciated!

That sounds like two different problems. The door lock buttons on the armrests should lock all the doors. You should be able to hear the actuators function in each door. That said the actuators may be weak or clips on the rods broken not allowing the lock mechanism to lock.

Is the alarm system an Toyota or aftermarket? Key fobs need to be programmed into the alarm system. If you have a Toyota you can search for programming instructions on this forum.

The actutors do not engage in the other 3 doors. Security system is factory, as is the fob. I like your thought it's 2 issues, I'll approach one at a time. Thanks!

Child locks are only on rear doors. Wouldn't explain pass front door not working

Have you checked the two fuse boxes for missing fuses and if anything else is not working? Like dome lights, or windows?

Dome lights and windows all work, fuses all seem to be there, pulling out the voltage meter later this week. Thanks all !

That's good news, in a way, then at least these systems are not broken - which could have been a reason to pull one of the main fuses.

According the wiring diagrams manual the main fuse for the doorlockers, windows, dome lights ist the FL POWER, but GAUGE and DOME seem to be involved in some smaller parts of the locking mechanism as well. These might want to be doublechecked.
Suggestion of other places to look for fuses would be in-line of some component:

- The fusible links cables (small cables coming from the battery, don't actually know if there are in-line fuses in these boxes, and if these would not shut off other parts as well. Unlikely that there is the problem).
- And in/around the alarm system. As far as i know the Land Cruiser was rolled out with two different factory alarm systems, with the 'brain' being under the driver's seat. If there is a dedicated alarm fuse, it won't be easy to find or access, it's an alarm system after all.
No idea though, if a disconnected (e.g. pulled fuse) alarm would affect the remote control or not. Best would be to look for the manual of your alarm system in order to identify it - and to maybe find some hints where to look. When i come to think of it: There must be a fuse for the alarm (brain) somewhere. Can't imagine that there would be an unfused circuit in a factory car.

There are a number of reasons why the alarm would be disconnected:
- battery drain during long standing times
- overly eager alarm system which you never really trust not to go off on you, right when you have your head in the engine bay.

There are several ways to disconnect the alarm, depending on how much you've grown to dislike it:
- bypass the brains under the driver's seat by differently connecting the plugs there (that's what the forums say, haven't done it myself)
- find a hidden fuse in the alarm system and pull it out
- install a new fuse or switch on the power source of the alarm system
- axe (not recommended)

If you can't find a hidden fuse that could solve your problem, then you might need to dig deeper into the electrics, using the wiring diagrams in the repair manual and the wiring diagram manual in order to find, identify and check the door lock components.
I read somewhere that the remote control and the key mechanism have two separate circuits. Btw. it is normal that the passenger side lock only opens itself when using the key, not all doors like the driver's side lock. That's at least how it works in my vehicle.

Guess you can't ask the previous owner which fuse he pulled? That would save you so much time ...

Just purchased a 1997 FJ80 and my rig is doing the same thing with the door locks. Did you ever find a solution to this? I have already removed my driver controls and cleaned them thinking that would work but it did not. I have had my cruiser for two weeks now and it is super. Thanks in advance for any help.
