Fellow LCer's

I have a stripped nut / connector where the door latch attaches to the frame. There are 2 bolts that attach the latch for the hard and soft doors. The threads where one of the bolts attach is stripped, so only one bolt is holding the door latch.

My Question:

Has anyone ever had to repair threads in the door frame? There is no place to access it unless I drill a hole in the back of the door frame, and use a bolt and nut. (Yuck)

Appreciate folks,

Yes that is a self constructed temporary latch :)

You can drill and tap to the next size up screw. Or drill and tap for a larger insert that has the threaded hole for your original size screw. Big box stores usually have the drill and tap on hand plus the bigger screws - online has everything at better prices and assortments

If you removed your soft top bows you can see the captured nut assembly down the hole. The two threaded holes are in a plate and float for adjustment within a bracket. Good advice above, or fix it your own way. That door lock striker plate is not for a 1972LC. You must have newer doors.

I thought about going through the soft top hole. The problem I face is I have already tapped the bottom and think it is maxxed out but can try again, have the tap set.

Any chance of replacing the floating plate? That sounds difficult...Thanks @timmyisinthewell

Hi Charlie, thank you. I may have maxxed out the hole (previous owner had tapped). Will try.
