Hi everyone. These handles have become snapped . Is there a good aftermarket way of fixing these?

If I buy the plastic chromed LC door handles will that be enough to fix these. Hoping its just the plastic in these thats snapped (not something metal on the inside)

Link just for example, they are available on Ebay also.

Cheers.

So bump. Certain its the plastic in the front of these handles that has snapped. Not connected to anything

Purchased 2x the above aftermarket handles RH Rear, LH Front.

Anyone had any problems with the quality of these before.

Hope they don't just break by my kids pulling them.

Removal and attachment looks moderately easy once the door trim is removed.

No experience with these. But I have used cheap aftermarket plastic handles on BMW x5 before and they held up pretty good.

Those look like aftermarket handles. Believe me I ordered a set (all 4) for my 2000 LC from partsouq.com not a week ago. The oem handles are strong, sturdy and lasts. More over OEM handle mechanism have ZERO play. It is more crisp and precise when opening the door.

Try your VIN at partsouq.com. They may have it in chrome, mine was white so I was at luck. Each was about US $58.

I installed aftermarket handles into my 92 Toyota Sprinter (after a brand new paint job) and those handles are more like rubber and it flexes when opening the door. I cannot find OEM replacements for those any more.

You said you are a father.... Yes, kids pull it from the front of the handle and that could be the issue. I taught my kids on how to open these poorly designed LC door handles. Look at older toyota handles (Hilux LN 106 etc.,), I am yet to see one of those breaking in our 30 year old Hilux!

Hopefully they do, could be a nightmare putting them in. Fingers crossed

2 comments saying Aftermarkets are ok. That is good to hear. Yeah my god, those kids if you don't hit that remote early enough pull on it so hard and repetitively. I don't even get it , they don't with my wifes car. She has a good go at these handles too... I rekn they just absolutely love hopping in the big girl . rofl

When you replace them, could you shoot a video/writeup? I need to swap the handles on mine but there's a clip in the way of the second bolt that I can't get loose. Thanks

Hope you are refering to the colored plastic clip holding the metal rod. Just lift it (I use a long needle nose plier and pry it to come off the metal rod). Then you might want to use a flat screw driver between the metal rod and the plastic clip on the handle and wiggle to release the metal rod from the handle assembly.

Years ago i had a rear door that somehow got locked shut and wouldnt open. I pulled out every trick i could dream up but i couldn’t get the lock to release. Finally i caved and used tools to forcibly remove the outside handle since a new (oem painted) replacement was the cheapest option i could identify. I was amazed at how tough that darn handle was! -I fought that thing with the courage of Davy Crockett and in the end i got it off but felt like i had lost the war.

It is totally kid related. I just noticed last week how the handles need to be pushed in every so slightly after I have opened the door. I must be the crazy angle that he pulls at the handle. It would be awesome to hear back from the OP after the replacement has taken place. How was the job? Any special tools?

Thanks and good luck.
