Well I was on the trail with some ass-hat decided to litter, and I ended up getting 30ft of fishing line wrapped up into my pinion..

So I remove what was wrapped around the drive shaft and saw that some was actually was spun up into the flange on the drive shaft. It was leaking  ...So I call up Cdan and have him send out the parts I needed. Today I got to tear into it and found somthing much worse then i wanted to. There was about 20ft of fishing line inside of my pinion which was not at all notice able from the outside. It destroyed my seal and also sucked sand particles into my 3rd member. Further examination of my fairly new gear set up and bearings showed grooves in the ring gear from sand particles and parts of fishing line floating in 90wt. I cleaned as much of it out as possible but am affraid that my rear end is boogered up. I guess there is nothing else to do but wait it out. I drive 400 miles a week in good ole Velveeta and sure hope the rear end does not lock up on me.

Side note: If you ever see anyone littering smack them up side the head for me:mad:

wow.
thats got to be one of the more incredible things that ive heard of. i mean what are the chances? thats just nuts. hope it didnt do to much damage.

How deep were the grooves? If they were just barely visible, then I bet that you will be fine.

Sorry to hear that. I'll make sure to smack anyone who litters. Good luck!

Run it, you would be amazed at how much damage a third can take before it pops...

That sucks..

Jason is right....

Clean out as much crap as you can, put in new oil, and run it.

Will probably be fine for a long, long time.

Drop a few hundred on bearings and a gear set, and do over.

I would run it, and see what is going on with the oil after a couple thousand miles.

Good luck!

God that's a lot of line! hard to believe someone would just throw that much of it out... that's not right.
Happened to my buddy's outboard motor one time. wound around the prop and down into a seal....

Yeah..I was a lil ticked off to say the least. But I have no other choice but to run it. So, I'll just report back if it blows up.:crybaby:

Thanks and good luck cruiserheads...
