I like the review. Too many US-based reporters focus on the GX's inability to handle like an X5 and accelerate like a Cayenne. And sip fuel like a minivan'ish MDX. The GX should be compared to other utility vehicles like the LR, cause that's what it is. A nicely appointed, Lexused, utility vehicle.

I would dig a 4 cyl diesel and a rear locker though.

Having driven one of these for about 6 months while living in Panama (unfortunately I wasnt able to catch up with any local clubs in my rental prado), I can say with certainty that 35MPG (from the review) is completely unrealistic unless they have done some major changes to gearing.

Otherwise good review. It's funny how the much of the world still appreciates the truck heritage, but in the U.S. its either a $45K Jeep Wrangler (which will never leave pavement) or a crossover/ sport wagon.

I assume you realise the MPG is imperial gallons (4.56L / gallon) ? versus the US (3.78L / gallon). That's about 20%...

And I'm guessing is 35mpg is also driving it very 'gently'.

cheers,
george.
