Hi Guys,

Ok I have taken the plunge and bought an L98 and 6L80E package to do a conversion on my 80 series. The engine comes out of what we call a Holden Commodore Ute and is rear sumped.

Anyway I am currently in USA for a few weeks or so and have read all sorts of info on these engines and what is the best bits to use in relation to accesories.

So I thought while I was over here I would see if I could pickup the brackets and bits to get the engine into the best config in regards to the Alternator, P/S, Air con etc.

Any info on what model trucks or SUV's I should be looking for and what config works best would be great.

You can bolt any of the truck or car 4.8l-6.0l accessories on as well as all the LS motors. Look around on ls1tech.com and craigslist classifieds. If you get the car accessories or truck make sure to get the balancer also I think they vary between truck and car.

my advice find any gen 4 ls motor and get all the brackets off of it dont mix and match. im not 100% but i dont think the l98 made it to the states i think it just a holden motor. but like most of the gen 3-4 gm motors alot of the parts should transfer over. good luck. what t-case and adapter will you be using? i want to do an l92 6l80 swap. whatever info you can post would be appreciated.

L98 was never available in the US, but since it is from the LSX family of engines I imagine most accessories from any newer truck, camaro 98-now, firebird 98-02, vette 97-now, GTO or anything else sporting a LS motor would work.

The closest we got to that engine was the one in the pontiac G8 GT.... but since pontiac went under shortly after they were released there isn't many out there.

That trans is going to be killer though.

1 4.027
2 2.364
3 1.532
4 1.152
5 0.852
6 0.667
R 3.064

Those are some nice ratios... especially the 1st and the 6th..... will provide excellent gas mileage... especially if you can find a cylinder deactivation model.... and a great crawl ratio with the 1st gear ratio.

Cheers guys, once I start I will post a full build thread so others can learn from my experience.

In relation to my question what I am trying to find out is what config engine is out there to take bits off.

The L98 is complete with all its accesories but I have read you can get the alternator up higher and move stuff around. The sump should be fine being a rear yeah ?

Why not do custom brackets and set everything the way you want and not the way some engineer thought you wanted? It seems like the general consensus is that any ls bracatry will work all you need to do is find a junk yard that has alot of them and pick and choose the ones you want. Or go customs.

I will go Custom iff I have to and would rat through a wrecking yard but I have limited time available while I am in the USA.

I will be no doubt spending enough time doing the conversion and making stuff to suit, just thought if there was factory options out there then it made sense to use them.

As we don't have many options in Australia I figured there would be plenty in the USA due to many years and many models of LSX family engines.

We want your 1HD-FT engines from and you want our GM V8s, LOL!! Life is funny.

Where are you visiting?
