My wife was walking our dogs in the neighborhood last night when she was charged by a PB. The dog got a hold of one of mine, but apparantly didn't break the skin or otherwise hurt it. My wife is fine, but was very shook up thinking it could have been her the dog attacked. She called 911, but was told that since she wasn't hurt they couldn't do anything and to call animal control. They were closed so she called back this morning and was told that since it wasn't a dog running loose right now to call back tomorrow and report it.

Aside from actually going down there and shooting the dog myself, which isn't really sensible or practical right now, is there anything we can do to get rid of this dog?

pepper spray works on dogs as well as people and wildlife. Got an Army Surplus close by? Grab a small can and hose the PB down, since you aren't able to handle it the old fashioned way.

A little raw ground beef poked inside a Chore Boy. Some kind soul did that to our Boxer when I was a kid.

Well, I wouldn't want to be cruel about it. The more I think about it I'd rather create trouble for the owners who are too stupid or lazy to train and control their dog and make them get the dog out of the neighborhood.

along the lines of pepper spray, when i was in middle school i got charged by a rott. tahnkfully i was wearing combat boots as was the trend of the day. a swift kick in the ribs or face will deterr any dog. my not be the best for jogging but.... i'm just sayin'

if this scenario was in my area... the dog would be in dogie prison or the pet cemetery.... we have strict dogie running loose laws....

In areas where pepperspray isn't allowed, carry a can of Brake Kleen and aim for the eyes. I had a strange dog menace me while I was working on the brakes of one of my vehicles. I turned and hit him in the face with a blast of Brake Kleen. It ran to the neighbors' lawn and tried to rub the spray off its face for the next 10 minutes, then left. If you've ever accidently gotten any in your eyes, you know how effective this stuff is.

Jesus god brake cleaner sucks in your eyes! I got a little bit in my right eye and thought about calling poison control to figure out how to stop it from watering...

If it was a Pit and he was mean your dog would be dead right now. So I would say not a mean dog and you and your wife really don't have a problem. If you take this into your own hands the Karma might hurt you.

BS..I love dogs but, screw that.Call animal control and put a foot in their ass.If you know the owner, contact them. If they're not gonna handle it.You handle it.If Any breed charged my wife and dog...I'll dump a clip.Your dog doesn't need to be mauled or bit...that's bs.Agression is not to be blown off.

call it in, no matter the type of dog it is, if its agressive something needs to be done. most likely the owners fault though. i agree with swutah though pitbulls have a lot of game in them, if they are bent on killing nothing will stop them, not even pepperspray. good dogs though until the owners mess them up

Carry a baseball bat.

One good contact with it and it won't bother you anymore.

or another type of 'walking stick' should do the trick.

I generally carry an Asp.

I get your point, but because no one got seriously injured or killed doesn't mean this isn't a problem or won't get worse.

We've got a PB on the block that charges the fence every time me and kids are out for a walk. I've talked to the owner about it, started out with a joke "man, that would suck if he got out", kinda thing. Finally said their dog was scaring the s*** out of my kid. I've learned that people that have poorly trained dogs aren't very well "trained" themselves. I carry pepper spray now if we're going that direction.
