Realistically, what are you comforable doing about it? Will you (realistically) carry a can of pepper spray every time you walk your dogs? Or a stick? Or big boots?
My two dogs average about 2 'encounters' per year. My dogs are always on leash when we're walking. Others aren't so smart, they come charging out and if my small dog gets there first the other dog is generally on their back in less than a second. If the big dog gets charged, he just takes it.
My point is- My dogs get 'attacked' pretty often. I still haven't started carrying a gun/ pepper spray/ big stick. It's just a big inconvenince. My weapon of choice has been the phone. I'm on a good relationship with the animal control officer (funny that) now and generlly can get him to do SOMETHING about it.
