... and the stinky mutt won't stay in the cargo area. Any suggestions for a dog barrier that doesn't mess-up the headliner on install? Most I see use a pressure fit from floor to cieling and kinka look like a pain to remove/intall.

wow. no clue on that. but you could get one of those dog seat belt things..

when Beau(big yellow lab) rode with me for 6 years daily, his spot was on the back seat, but like to get up front, so I dug up a old tailgate net and ran it thru the front seat head rests and then hook it to the bottom seat brackets, it keep him in his area as well as if I had to hit the brakes it keep him from landing in the front seats. Yeah he could still jump over it if he wanted but he seldom did.,

Might be able to rig up something similar using the rear grab handles or or something.

yeah sure a dog like a crate better than hangin his head out the window..................sure they do :D

Can't hang your head out the cargo area, unless you've got sliders, or if you drive with the rear hatch open--cough, cough!

inexpensive: wire framed dog crate -- affords you visibility out the back and side windows vs. using a n airline crate; can cover with a blanket for warmth when leaving dog in a cold car; keeps interior & headliner mud/grime/hair free after hunting, hiking, wallowing in the mire; keeps dog from becoming a projectile in the event of a crash; easily removable

expensive: Milford Cargo Barrier -- installs without impacting the headliner; becomes an additional structural member of the truck once installed; will definately keep anything including dog in the rear cargo area; NOT easily removable as it bolts in

handyman: fab a custom solution.....

Crates are the safest, best option for dog transport. However, my Malamute (98 lbs) is deathly affraid of crates, I think the guy that owned him as a puppy used the crate as a punishment tool. You can't even get him to stay in the same room with a crate anymore, I've give up trying to crate train him.

We bought a pet barrier from Drs. Foster and Smith (pet mail-order catalog) that is the push up on your headliner kind, it's not really a big deal unless it's a show truck, most people never even notice the 'dent'.

i can't fit a crate large enough for my dog in the wife's 80 no choice he just rides in back...... Anatolian Shepard .... just a 11 month old puppy .... weighs in at 120lbs!!!!!!!!

his dad weighs about 160lbs... is currntly a #2 wesminster dog..... lives in Ocala FL.

i figure when TeaDa (okinawan for Sun) is full grown he'll just have to ride on top of the 80..... i probably fab up a cage for up there....

Thats a big dog! I bet he works as a great anti theft device for your cruiser.

Crap! I thought my dog was big! I love big dogs. If I'm going to have a dog, don't give me a pansy-ass min-pincher, give me a D-O-G. One of my neighbors (before she moved) had a Irish Wolfhound. She drove a Rav-4. Get the picture yet? passenger side rear window had his head hanging out of it, and the drivers side rear window had his tail hanging out! He wore that Rav-4 like a sweater.

I didn't know Anatolians were so BIG.

Actually, dogs do prefer a crate. They are "denning" animals and tight quarters make them feel more secure and safe. you can't just stick them in the box, however. They have to be trained. I helped write and edit an article about the whole thing about 3 years ago.

http://petmate.com/ - click on the "IMPORTANT" green area at the top of the page to find out how important training is - don't train it, and you can kill your dog.
