So I’ve been perusing mud trying to find a good s to pair with the dobinsons 2.5 tapered coils and I ended up finding these. Has anybody tried them? Doetsch is a small company and it seems like there’s little to no reviews on their “upper end” shocks. Is getting a “custom” valves aluminum body 2.0 shock for a little over a hundred bucks to good to be true?
I’m finally getting rid of my 15 year old OME lift and I’m hoping to get a little more out of the 80. It seems like new OME shocks and dobinsons yellow are pretty comparable good shocks, icons are valves great but will inevitably leak, and slinky/ king/ ADS and honeslty any remote resi is probably more then I need. The 80 is a daily/ weekend wheeler and I’m finding myself hitting harder and harder trails all over southern Montana.
And here’s a link to the shocks in question

The only thing have to add to this is all rebuildable shocks are going to leak, when they start, it just means it's time to rebuild them. The shocks you linked, Icons, ADS, Radflo, King, Fox, Slinky (made by Icon), etc will all leak at some point. Just don't want you to expect something different from the cheaper ones.

For the price it’s not bad. I wonder if they can do specific valving or it’s one size fits all.

Ive heard from a couple people that icons have a tendency to leak fairly quickly, like in the first 6 months. Have you had a different experience with them? I’m kinda hoping it was just a slip on their quality control.

Have installed a bunch, and been running them for 18 months on one of the shop rigs, not reported leaks yet.

I have Fox 2.0's currently. They ride great when they are not leaking, but they need to be rebuilt badly now. I got around 50k out of them. Probably 40k before I started have serious leaking. I am replacing them with Dobinsons yellow shocks. I will rebuild the Fox's as backups.

50k?? Rebuildable shocks should be EXPECTED to be rebuilt somewhere around the 15-20k point, depending on use obviously (a race truck that gets the shock oil over 200*F for hours will need shocks rebuilt far more often than a 4Runner getting groceries with sweet shocks on a weekly basis).

Most of those miles are highway. I bought the truck with them already on it, and didn't know much about them at the time. Fox recommends rebuilds at 10k for extreme use, and up to 40k for daily driving (if I recall correctly). They are definitely past their prime.

I assume that most people that buy rebuildable shocks don't actually rebuild them at the proper intervals (like myself).

In your experience is getting 20k miles out of a rebuildable shock and a daily/ weekend wheeler pretty typical? It’s my first time dipping my toes in anything other than OME or ranchos🤦🏾‍♂️
