Does the US have something against simple 5 spoke wheels?

Here are mine, came with the 80 when I got it. I think its is just a styling thing, US vehicles got stuck with non spoke wheels like in the 70's and 80's.

Apart from the asethetics, the 3 piece forged Japanese are in general much lighter and very strong wheels indeed.

A friend of mine who is a professional 4WD desert racer once told me that he had used a lot of wheels throughtout his racing life. Most of the steel, solid cast alloys would fracture, sometimes with a broken chunk, when a rock is hit (they are fully aware that have to hit these rocks as they could not afford the time to go around them in a race).

The 3 piece forged are usually much stronger and can withstand much more of these impacts. Worst case is they would deform but not fully broken.

I'm not sure if the barrels are available but another advantage of 3 piece wheels is you can split them if you bend a lip. You often have to replace the old bolts and they can be a bugger to split apart (often use glue/sealant). Companies like Kodiak offers replacement barrels...you just have to make sure they'll fit your existing setup.

Old Center Line Hellcats And Convo Pro are what I always think of when I see those Japanese spec wheels from the first post.

I spoke to Epsilon Japan a few weeks ago. They in general do not agree with barrel replacement without proper dynamic balancing of the entire wheel using high precision balancer such as the ones they have in-house, for safety reasons.

Borbet CW's

Here's what I have my LX450. Not 5 spoke but still very simple.
I agree with your comments about it being hard to find simple wheels. That has always been my preference as they are way easier to keep clean and just better IMHO.

The Borbet's are a German wheel and they still show on their web site.

Thanks jb

by HDJ81 from Japan had a set of 15" Deerfields on it. IIRC they also had stamping from BF Goodrich on them. My neighbour, who bought my truck just retired them for another wheel. I can ask if he wants to sell them. Unfortunately they were a 10.5" wide wheel, which I thought was a little much. Current owner has gone to 255 series tires and appropriate wheels. PM me and I'll ask.

I personally like the stock wheels on these trucks.

Here is a pic of the ones on the Japanese cruiser

x2. I had the Centerlines on my '86 mini but sold 'em when I started wheeling 'cuz they were too nice.:)

Same in AUS, no one really uses those nice 5 spokes. I can get all these type of wheels in. Im actually getting a set for myself.

Are these available in a even 16" wheel? I'd grab 5 or 6 if that bolt pattern works - I just tried to go measure & it seems like we are ~136mm center to center across bolt holes.

My guess is it should work. They look to be 139.7/6-bolts. And yes, 16" are available as I am using a set myself.

Yuck Chang!! Your Bradleys are perfect man! I love your car. Im looking for that wing atm, and ive got the JDM carrier already, but mine is an Aus delivered model, so not sure if it will work.

Thats right

Chang, leave your truck as is!! I love the JDM look, I think Im a minority that does hehe. They dont tend to use Bullbars in Japan.

This is also a high end Japanese rim. Something that I want, But this size is too extreme.
