Hey everyone,
I took an Fj for a test drive, and when we got back we were looking at the rear seats, and wanted to see how much room their would be with them flat. So the salesman attempted to fold them down. They didn't go flat at all, then we pulled the headrests and still they didn't go totally flat. Were we missing something?

Thanks,
Zack

Not missing anything - they don't lay flat, even with the seat bottoms removed.

EDIT: Are you talking about flat, as in even with the entire cargo area? That's what I was talking about.

mine go totally flat once you pull the headrests you can also remove the seats.. back ones that it.

The one that I test drove did not go totally flat at all even with the headrest gone. That seems like a dumb thing that they don't go flat.

If I didn't think I'd have passengers, I'd take the back seats out, and the front passenger seat out and make it dedicated to instrumentation and cargo space etc.

I guess it all depends on what you mean by flat. Even with the headrests removed, I've not seen an FJ yet that will fold "totally" flat.

I would think that would be a design flaw?

I mean... by flat I mean the rear seat bottom is at 180 degrees, parallel to the ground however you wanna call it. There's still that bump that divides the cargo area and the rear seat.

You mean the rear seat back, don't you?

Post some pictures, because I don't think anyone else's is folding totally flat.

The bottom portion of the rear seats can be taken right out, take the head rests off aswell and fold down the rear, the seats should fold flat although you have that dip for the cargo area..

Yes, the rear seats do fold flat, except at a slightly higher elevation than the cargo area. It doesnt bother me at all at least not yet. All you need to do is remove the head rests. Not bad at all, compared to my Grand Cherookee, you have to remove the entire rear seat cusions in order for the rear to be flat otherwise the rear seats only fold to about 45 degrees from flat. Now thats kind of a hassle.

hhmmm...i tried one at the dealership and it didnt' fold flat. do they have to get "broken in" before they will fold flat?
