I need some help!:bang: I have been debating for about a month now should I keep it or just cut my losses. Here is the original post from the accident:
https://forum.ih8mud.com/80-series-tech/281340-why-you-use-your-emergency-brake.html

I have an estimate for $3000 body work and about $1000-independent from the insurance company. They have already declared it a total loss. Mechanically, a transmission hose, a/c condenser assembly w/piping and alignment need to be replaced/fixed. The rest is body damage as you can see in the pics. I got all the prices for the body parts off Cruiser Parts since they had one central place for everything. Breakdown for bodywork was $2000 for parts and $1000 for painting/labor.

Just looking for some unbiased opinions, I'm kind of partial b/c of what I have invested in it. Let me know what you think. Thanks!

Mike

My insurance is giving me $7800 for the total loss and $1300 for me to buy it back. I have about $9000 invested already and it's going to cost me about $4000 fix it back to where I want it.

i would most likley fix it, upgrading the the front bumper at a minimum. but mines not a daily driver.

My buddy wrecked his 03 Honda Accord a couple of months ago and I helped him out. It wasn't that bad. We never even called the insurance company. We found a radiator support of all places amazon, a new front bumper facia, a new air box, battery, a new hood, and headlight all for under 500 bucks. The guy who did the paint on the facia and hood did a great job and only charged him 400 bucks. I chizzled out his whole radiator support and welded in his new one and helped him put the rest of it back together. It was SUPER easy to do...only took us a long morning to tear it all apart and put it back together.

I say call someone like certified auto recylcers and see if you can get the parts, take care of the mechanicals, then find a decent shop to paint it.

I know you are picky about your car after talking with you back on post when you got that bumper. But you could do it.

I didn't really understand your post about the insurance money but if you could come out ahead I would just buy it back.

Without actually seeing the truck, from what you have described, I would say fix it. Either way, if insurance is going to give you $7800 for the loss, and you can then buy it back for $1300, I would buy it back. Even if you don't want to fix it, you can part it out and make a profit.

From looking at the pics in the other thread it looks like most of the damage is superficial. One word of caution though, if there is any frame damage, I would consider parting out. I speak from experience of driving a truck that couldn't be aligned, ate tires, didn't track straight on the highway...

How soon do you have to make a decision on buying the truck back? Does the truck have lockers, good interior, motor, tranny, etc.?

Dang Mike I was just going to email you and see where things stood on this.

I'd be partial to fixing it, but it entirely depends on your motivation, willingness to have a salvage title, time pressures, willingness to do the work or coordinate it, etc.

At a minimum, buy it back. Then you have time to decide. As stated, you can fix it and pocket a few bucks, probably sell it as-is for slightly more than the buy-back, or part it for a profit.
