Saw some YouTube videos and decided to do this myself. Cut up a Curt spare tire carrier and used a hitch sleeve and bolts. Ended up having a buddy weld it so it wasn’t so loose. Came out pretty good!

I've been interested in putting exactly this together for a long time but wasn't sure about parts... I would even consider buying one just like this if it were available somewhere. If you don't mind sharing, what was the general cost of parts?

This is the spare tire carrier I used.......I think I got it f$90 at the time.

CURT 31006 24-Inch High Trailer Hitch Spare Tire Mount for 2-inch Receiver Amazon product ASIN B0009YIE1O
If you can weld, you coukd weld up your own Curt type mount with 2x2 tubing and a metal plate to mount the wheel spacer to.

I used this from Harbor Freight

I used the actual hitch piece from an old bike carrier but you could use the piece you cut off from the Curt one. And I had some extra 2”x2” tubing I used fit the bottom half of my carrier.

I ordered 2 of these:

Forney 49620 Hot Rolled Plate, 1/4" x 4" x 12" Amazon product ASIN B003X5OJXS
My bolts holding it together are 1/2” stainless and the pivot bolt is a 5/8” Grade 8. I put some thin nylon washers between the plates and bar where the 5/8” bolt is to help it rotate smoothly.

These are the 2 wheel spacers I got, not available now.......$40 for the pair.

Got this at Tractor Supply for about $6

Just a side note, Napa has bolts, nuts and washers way cheaper than anywhere else!

Watch this video, it was my inspiration:

And here’s a couple of threads about it:

Put another clevis pin in to block the carrier so it only goes down far enough to clear the hatch. Obviously I can pull the 2nd pin if I need to lower it all the way.
