My Step-Father and I built some Sliders for my 80 over the 4th of July. Just thought I would post up some pics of the project. Enjoy.

Lookin tough!!

Have you dropped the full weight of an 80 series on them yet? How did they hold up?

Not yet. Planning on hitting some trails this weekend to "break them in". Test out the lift & the Slider's! :D:D

Very nice! I like the ability to remove them if need be. I'm sure you will get comments about the one bolt per mount but I think you did your homework. There really isn't much load on the bolt when your on the slider, it is transferred to the mount nicely.

Do you have any more shots of around the cats?

Nice work.

I dont, but I will take some and post em.

We actually didn't go around the Cat (single on mine). We figured we would just be taking away from the clearance of the frame if we built a mount around the Cat. because we built everything out of square tubing. This does leave the Cat. unprotected though. So its a trade-off. I might add a piece of flat iron in the future to protect the Cat.

The Passenger Side Slider has 2 mounts (rear & middle) just like the other side. Then, the front mount actually is mounted to existing holes that appear to be designed for a running board. The front mount point is technically on the body, but it is right where the body attaches to the frame, and appears very stout.

Hopefully this is not a big issue. I dont think it will be.

Great job fabing up your own sliders!

Wow!! That's a huge pic. I like the tie in with the body. Keep us posted how it holds up after a few times of hammering on the slider. It was difficult to tell from the pic but it would be a good idea to use at least 8.8 hardware. It will be interesting to see how the captive nut in the body holds up.

Sorry about the pic sizes...I shoulda resized em before posting.

What do you mean by 8.8? :o I'm not sure I know what that means. Bolt hardness?

If so...I don't know what the hardness is of the bolts, but everything we used to build the Sliders was scrap metal & stocked bolts/nuts/washers at my Dad's shop...a farm shop, he fabricates farm equipment all the time. I would assume they are pretty high grade. :D

Grade 8.8 and 10.9 are grades of metric bolts. Much the same as Grade 5 and Grade 8 SAE bolts. As a general rule 8.8 is approximately the same as Grade 5 and 10.9 is to Grade 8. I don't know where you're from but if you have a Fleetfarm, Tractor Supply or even NAPA you should be able to locate some decent metric hardware that will hold up to years of abuse.

A follow up on my Sliders.

They have been abused pretty solidly in Moab...and show no ill effects. They are solid, hold up well, and protect nicely.

They are showing a bit of wear on the edges where a person steps in and out of the vehicle. Basically just paint wearing off, and slight rust. No big deal.

BUT...there is a small "feature" that was discovered. It took a mechanic to help me diagnose...but here is basically what happens:

The bolt that connects the PS Slider to the body where the Cat. is in the way...causes a slight issue with the flex of the frame compared to the flex of the body. I basically started noticing a "boing" sound when I would drive in situations where things normally flex. So what seems to happen is the body is slightly forced to flex with the frame because the Slider is connected to both frame and body.

Long term effects? Probably none is what I would think, and that is what the mechanic thinks as well. You could probably also just put some sort of rubber washer or grommet on the bolt that attaches to the body, and it would probably go away.

Just thought I would update this.
