A PO boogered up the gasket on the license plate cover (80 series) and now that I just refinished the paint and putting things back together I’m getting anal about everything. I’m a little stumped if I should do some diy gasket material or fine bead of silicone to keep the water out of the electrical in this light cover. I don’t need to purchase a new cover and they don’t sell the gasket/weather stripping material (as far as I can tell).

Open to suggestions. Not hot on the silicone idea as I used some on my rear louver cover and it shows, even after wiping a ton with acetone while wet.

I have use the thin closed cell foam that they sell at craft stores to make light gaskets. It comes in a couple of sizes, as well as colors. It's about 1/16" thick.
