Hello all,

Not sure if this is the best place to pask but it is kinda hard core to me.
I saw on XTREME4x4 one week they build a dimple die press, have any of you built your own or know where to ge tthe pic of one built. I want to say they used 4 or 5 inch square tubing, thick walled,( maybe a 1/4 ") . It did not look like the typical press with the bottle jack going through the center, anyway this is where i am stuck, i just cant remember enough about the design they used but i do remember i loved it.

thanks in advance
cheers chappy

yes i think that is, awesome bro. how big of jack you using? and how big is the tubing? looks like 2". also sweet as tool box, looks just like mine..

cheers

thanks...but not my shop bro. google is your friend. lol

But IMO I would build mine a bit more beefy. I think they used 2x4x.25 steel to build theirs. and you bottle jack needs to be pretty stout. or you need big arms or a long lever.

looks like 2x3 and 2x4 tubing 1/8" thick with a 20 ton bottle jack..

I thought these were dimple dies. That looks like some sort of funky press brake. That base looks very weak also. I think a person would be better served with a HF press and a brake.

You're correct, that is a funky press brake.

The benefit of this style of press(simply a matter of changing the angle-iron dies for the dimple dies) is that you can position dimples close to the edge of a piece you're working on. Whereas with a traditional H-frame press you can't get to the edges if it's a decent sized piece. Both presses have their place. I have a 20-ton HF press, but will probably build a dedicated dimple die press as well because I think it will come in very handy.

that is some sort of break, but the design could easly be converted to do dimple dies.

any one have a source for cheap dimple dies? suckers arent cheap anywhere i look and HF doesnt sell them. hard for me to justify $300 on some dies and then another $100 + for the press. I know ill use them alot over the course of time just still
