DIY Diagnosing and Repair of 2005+ Catalytic Converter Failure

Observers will note that the 2006-07 catalytic converter places the oxygen sensor between the two catalyst elements of the pipe, unlike the older model converter with the flange type sensor fit at the rear flange. This makes the Magnaflow 49422 a non-direct replacement.

The pipe has a death rattle when shaken. A peek through the sensor bung reveals the broken element loose and rattling about.
